RR Psalm 33:11,12 Part 6

Shavuah Tov,

Psalms
Psalm 33:11,12 – Part 6

Psalm 33:11 The plan of Adonai stands forever, the purposes of His heart from generation to generation. 12 Blessed (Ashre) is the nation whose God is Adonai, the people He chose for His own inheritance.

Here are the “plans and purposes” of Adonai (in Hebrew, “Ya’atz and Mach’shavot”), in English they are “advice and thoughts.”  Are you kidding me?  I could have been taking advice from the One True and Living God, Who created heaven and earth?  That’s hands-down better than taking my own advice.

Proverbs 2:6 For Adonai gives wisdom. Out of His mouth comes knowledge and understanding.

What does the Bible say about taking your own advice?  Proverbs 12:15 A fool’s way is right in his own eyes, but the wise listen to advice.

Psalm 33, verse 12 speaks of a blessing of gladness for the nation that is chosen by God.  What nation could that be?  1Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the One who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.  Wait!  Is this the children of Israel or some other nation?  Read on… 1Peter 2:10 Once you were “not a people,” but now you are “God’s people.” You were shown “no mercy,” but now you have been shown “mercy.”

The followers of Yeshua from among the nations have not replaced the children of Israel as God’s chosen people, but instead, have now joined with the children of Israel to serve the Lord in love.  Ephesians 3:6 This mystery is that the Gentiles are joint heirs and fellow members of the same body and co-sharers of the promise in Messiah Yeshua through the Good News.

Before you get all giddy about being chosen, let’s add some perspective.  The Hebrew word for “chosen” is “Bachar” meaning brought forth and selected for the purpose of sacrifice.

Deuteronomy 7:6 For you are a holy people to Adonai your God—from all the peoples on the face of the earth, Adonai your God has chosen (Bachur) you to be His treasured people. 7 It is not because you are more numerous than all the peoples that Adonai set His love on you and chose (Bachur) you—for you are the least of all peoples. 8 Rather, because of His love for you and His keeping the oath He swore to your fathers, Adonai brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

God, Himself, redeemed you to be His treasured people.  Ephesians 1:4  He chose us in the Messiah before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless before Him in love. 5 He predestined us for adoption as sons through Messiah Yeshua, in keeping with the good pleasure of His will.

Consider yourself chosen for the purpose of sacrifice.  Romans 12:1 I urge you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice—holy, acceptable to God—which is your spiritual service.  Shalom shalom.
