RR Psalm 34:4 Part 3
Shalom,
Psalm 34:4(3) Magnify Adonai with me and let us exalt His Name together.
Every well written paper has a thesis sentence. One sentence (usually the last sentence of the first paragraph after an introduction) that tells the reader the purpose of the paper. What is the subject of the paper, or what is the writer trying to prove by writing? The “thesis sentence” answers those questions. Psalm 34, verse 4 is the “thesis sentence” of Psalm 34. Every Psalm (and by extension, every Scripture) is a call upon the reader to change away from evil and into the image of God. Let’s receive the call to change.
2Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Messiah, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
First, the call is to become a “people.” Words like “with me,” “let us,” and “together,” demand a togetherness that is found in congregational life. Then we use that togetherness (unity) to exalt (lift up) His name.
Rabbi Trail: I don’t know how to quote myself without appearing senile. However; I think repeating myself without acknowledging I’m doing it, is actually worse. All that to say, I’m convinced that hell is as lonely as it is hot because everyone in hell got there by putting him/her self first. End RT.
The Hebrew form of this verse is well known to us “Shomairians” because it is part of our usual Torah service. The person carrying the Torah turns to face the Ark and bows, saying, “Make the Lord great with me.” (“Gad’lu L’Adonai Iti….” Then he straightens and concludes the verse, “And let us lift up His name together as one.” (U’N’rom’mo Shemo Yach’dov.) This is chanted just before we initiate the Torah processional.
One God: Isaiah 43:11 “I, I am Adonai—and there is no Savior beside Me….15 I am Adonai, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King.”
One people: Revelation 7:9 After these things I looked, and behold, a vast multitude that no one could count—from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues—was standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands 10 and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
Now let’s close with this from Isaiah… Isaiah 46:9 Remember the former things of old: For I am God—there is no other. I am God, and there is none like Me. Shalom shalom.
