RR - Psalm 31:12-14 Part 12
Shalom,
Psalm 31:12 Because of all my adversaries I am the contempt of my neighbors and a dread to my acquaintances. Seeing me on the street, they flee from me. 13 I am as forgotten as a dead man. I have become like a broken vessel. 14 For I have heard the whispering of many. There is terror on every side as they conspire against me and plot to take my life.
What a sorry state of affairs. Here is a recap… On account of all those who trouble me (they restrict and confine me), I am a disgrace and a reproach to my neighbors and a very great disaster to those who know me. Seeing me outside, they flee away from me. And this calamity goes on for two more verses that contain another six descriptions of misery. “I am…” 1) Forgotten as if dead and of no consequence. 2) Like a destroyed vessel. “I have…” 3) Heard the slander of many. 4) The terror surrounding me. “They have…” 5) Together, laid a foundation against me. 6) Plotted or schemed to take my soul.
This is presented as a serious existential threat. To benefit fully when we read the Scriptures, we must put ourselves in the action. What are you going to do when this happens to you? The answer (which we will appreciate more fully tomorrow) is, “We turn to (put our trust in) the Lord.” Where else would you seek an all powerful and all knowing solution?
Psalm 121:1 A Song of Ascents. I will lift up my eyes to the mountains—from where does my help come? 2 My help comes from Adonai, Maker of heaven and earth.
Rabbi Trail: Would you rather have Paul Wilbur sing it to you? Here you go… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mv2H2fJgKpg He looked different 40 years ago, as does everybody. I don’t know what happened. End RT.
Life presents us with many choices. Choose your solutions wisely, my friends. Isaiah 55:6 Seek Adonai while He may be found, call on Him while He is near. There are literally hundreds of similar verses that encourage us to seek God for answers to life’s problems. Jeremiah 29:13 You will seek Me and find Me, when you will search for Me with all your heart. Just one more for good measure… Zephaniah 2:3 Seek Adonai, all you humble of the land who have executed His judgment. Seek righteousness; seek meekness! Perhaps you will be hidden on the day of Adonai’s wrath. Shalom shalom.
