RR Psalm 30:8 Part 7

Psalms
Psalm 30:8(7) – Part 7

Psalm 30:8 Adonai, in Your favor You made my mountain stand strong. When You hid Your face, I was terrified.

Here is the choice offered by our subject verse… “Stand Strong” (in Hebrew, “Ohz He’e’mad’ta,” meaning, “I stood in strength”) or “Be Terrified” (in Hebrew, “Ha’yi’ti Niv’hal,” meaning, “I was terrified”)?  God gives us choices, and this is one of them.  Which one is consistent with a life of faith?  Which one is consistent with trusting God?  Which one allows us to follow God’s commandment?

Ephesians 6:16 Above all, take up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

… and working backward, we see this…

Ephesians 6:13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist when the times are evil, and after you have done everything, to stand firm.

“Stand firm” sounds like the opposite of being terrified.  So stand strong in faith, and enjoy the victory.  This is God’s desire for you in Messiah Yeshua.  1John 5:4 For everyone born of God overcomes the world. And the victory that has overcome the world is this—our faith.

Our subject verse mentions “You hid Your face.”  The Hebrew word for “hide or hidden” is “His’tar’ta” (past tense).  In Scripture this can be either physical or spiritual.  Spiritually “hidden” involves a deeper meaning.  We can accept a surface (in your face) meaning, or we can go deeper to seek out the hidden meaning of a matter.

Proverbs 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a matter and the glory of kings to search it out.

Who are these “kings?”  1Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the One who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.  (Quoting in part Exodus 19:6)

“Dar el Luz” (as I learned it in Spanish) is, literally “give to light” but figuratively, “come to the light, as in birth.”  The deeper meaning of 1Peter 2:9 is a call to be born again.  May we all hear that call, stand firm in faith, and receive the blessing of the higher calling to be born again.  Shalom shalom.
