RR Psalm 33:4,5 Part 3
Shalom,
Psalm 33:4 For the word of Adonai is upright and all His work is done in faithfulness. 5 He loves righteousness and justice. The earth is full of the love of Adonai.
There is power in the Word of God. As we praise God and His handiwork, His name is exalted. Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Messiah dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another with all wisdom in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with gratitude in your hearts to God.
In particular, there are five Hebrew words in these two verses that command our attention. The concepts they communicate are worthy of our regard. As we endeavor to build a life worthy of reflecting the glory of God, these five words serve as foundation stones for us all. 1Corinthians 3:11 For no one can lay any other foundation than what is already laid—which is Yeshua the Messiah. Each of these words describes the character of Yeshua that He wants to duplicate in each of us. 2Peter 1:4 Through these things He has given us His precious and magnificent promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, since you have escaped the corruption that evil desires have brought into the world.
Here are the five words… Yashar (upright), Emunah (eternal truth), Tzidakah (righteousness), Mish’pat (justice), and Chesed (lovingkindness/grace). Look how many of them are mentioned in this one verse… Deuteronomy 32:3 For I will proclaim Adonai’s Name, ascribe greatness to our God! 4 The Rock—blameless is His work. Indeed, all His ways are just (Yashar). God of faithfulness (Emunah) without iniquity, righteous (Tzadik) and upright (Yashar) is He.
God is Yashar, straightforward and upright in all His ways. Proverbs 3:6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Not so with the enemies of God. Peter comments on how people misunderstand the writings of Paul… 2Peter 3:16 He speaks about these matters in all of his letters. Some things in them are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist (as they also do with the rest of the Scriptures)—to their own destruction. They twist what God makes straight.
Emunah is where we get our word “Amen.” It means eternal truth. It is translated as “faithfulness” because you can count on it to be the truth. Psalm 40:11(10) I did not hide Your righteousness (Tzadik) within my heart. Rather I declared Your faithfulness (Emunah) and Your salvation. I did not conceal Your lovingkindness (Chesed) and Your truth from the great assembly.
Tzedakah (righteousness) is actually hyphenated with Mishpat (justice). In God’s kingdom, righteousness and justice are two sides of the same coin. How often do we hear people in the world demanding justice, without any real sense of what justice actually is. Justice is not equal misery, but protection for the weak. Romans 3:26 Through God’s forbearance, He demonstrates His righteousness at the present time—that He Himself is just and also the justifier of the one who puts his trust in Yeshua.
And finally, there is Chesed (God’s loving response to our desperate need for grace). Joseph was thrown into prison, a life threatening condition, when God extended grace… Genesis 39:21 But Adonai was with Joseph and extended kindness (Chesed) to him and gave him favor in the eyes of the commander of the prison.
These attributes magnify the character of God. We’re not in Psalm 34 yet, but soon we will be. Here is a sneak peak. Psalm 34:9(8) Taste and see how good Adonai is. Blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him. Shalom shalom.
