RR Psalm 31:23 Part 19

Shalom,

Psalm 31:23 I said in my alarm, “I have been cut off from Your sight!” But You heard the sound of my pleas when I cried out to You.

Take a moment to see the word “alarm” in our verse.  The Hebrew Shoresh is “Chaphaz” (Chet-Peh-Zion) which is first used as the third of four “don’t’s”as instruction for war, “don’t panic.”  Deuteronomy 20:3 He will say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel, you are drawing near today to the battle against your enemies. Don’t be fainthearted! Don’t fear or panic or tremble because of them.  “Panic” is a lying spirit attributed to the idol (false god) Pan.

Rabbi Trail: The Banias (one of three headwaters of the Sea of Galilee and subsequently, the Jordan River) are so named for the false Greek god, Pan.  The Arabs (unable to say a “P” sound, substitute a “B” sound, so instead of “Panias” we get “Banias.”  Yeshua called it the “Gates of Hell” which is the place, “Caesarea Philippi” where the imagination of false gods was destroyed.

Matthew 16:15 He said, “But who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17 Yeshua said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven! 18 And I also tell you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My community; and the gates of Sheol will not overpower it.  End RT.

The Psalmist is alarmed that he might not be seen by the Lord.  However; he immediately reassures himself that even if he is not seen, he will be heard.  God never asks us to do what He, Himself, is not already doing.  He says “Shema Yisrael,” because He is already listening.  Psalm 34:18(17) The righteous cry out and Adonai hears, and delivers them from all their troubles.  As if that is not good enough, in the last days, it gets even better… Isaiah 65:24 And it will come to pass that before they call, I will answer, and while they are still speaking, I will hear.

One last word today… Remember, in the kingdom of God, there is no such thing as passive hearing.  God will always respond to what He hears.  1John 5:14 Now this is the confidence we have before Him—that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have the requests we have asked from Him.  Shalom shalom.
