RR Psalm 31:16,17 Part 14

Shalom,

Psalm 31:16 My times are in Your hands. Deliver me from the hands of my foes and from those who pursue me. 17 Make Your face shine on Your servant. Save me in Your lovingkindness.

Whose hand (in both instances, the Hebrew is singular), God’s hand or my enemy’s hand?  Oh yes, the hand of God.  NOT the hand of my enemies.

Rabbi Trail:  The Hebrew word for “my enemies” is exactly transliterated as “Oy-Vey.”  In Yiddish, we say “Oy-Vey” in exasperation upon the occurrence of a calamity.  It comes from an attempt to blame our troubles on our enemies, or maybe we want such things to happen to our enemies.  However; neither of them is consistent with the principles of the kingdom of God.  Matthew 5:44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45a so that you may be children of your Father in heaven.  End RT.

In these two verses, we implore God to do three things… deliver me, shine on me, and save me.

“Deliver me,” (Ha’tzi’lay’ni)  You are “the package,” created in this world by God, with a destiny - to be delivered into His kingdom.  1Peter 2:9  But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the One who called you (to be delivered) out of darkness into His marvelous light.

“(Make your) face shine on me,” (Ha’ira Pa’ne’cha)  Each of us is like a child, Romans 8:15  For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall again into fear; rather, you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”  We are all calling out to Daddy, “Look at me!”  1Samuel 16:7b “For He (God) does not see a man as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but Adonai looks into the heart.”  We all want His blessing of approval.  Psalm 126:3  Adonai has done great things for us—we are joyful!

“Save me,” (Ho-shi-ay-ni) We have all sinned (Romans 3:23) and the penalty of sin is death (Romans 6:23).   Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”  So, we cry out… “Hosanna” (save us now).  Psalm 40:4  He put a new song in my mouth—a hymn of praise to our God.

Deliverance, favor and salvation are all promised gifts of love from God.  These blessings and more are administered to us, His people, by God’s Son, Yeshua HaMashiach.  Ephesians 3:20 Now to Him who is able to do far beyond all that we ask or imagine, by means of His power that works in us,  21 to Him be the glory in the community of believers and in Messiah Yeshua throughout all generations forever and ever! Amen.  Shalom shalom.
