Psalm 30:7(6) – Part 6
Psalm 30:7 When I felt secure, I said: “I will never be shaken.”
What is this? The word for “in my security” is “B’Shal’vi.” While the Strong’s Concordance claims this is the only use of this word in Scripture, there are many other forms of the same word found in many other places. And this use of a sense of security is not necessarily a good thing, as it is regularly tied to an attitude of complacency. The sad truth (revealed throughout history) is that we, the people, turn to God in times of trouble, but in times of plenty, “Ananchnu Shokachim,” meaning, “We forget.” Moses warns us…
Deuteronomy 8:11 “Take care that you do not forget Adonai your God by not keeping His mitzvot, ordinances and statutes that I am commanding you today. 12 Otherwise, when you have eaten and are full and have built good houses and lived in them,… 13b and all that is yours multiplies, 14 then your heart will be haughty and you will forget Adonai your God. He brought you out from the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery.
Paul was saying more than we might have previously thought…. Philippians 4:12 I know what it is to live with humble means, and I know what it is to live in prosperity. In any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of contentment—both to be filled and to go hungry, to have abundance and to suffer need. What he means here is that he has learned to depend upon God in times of humility (shortage) and in times of prosperity (abundance). Remembering to depend upon God in times of prosperity is the greater challenge.
This is why it is difficult for a rich person to enter eternity in God’s presence…. Matthew 19:23 Then Yeshua said to His disciples, “Amen, I tell you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.” We must always depend upon God who brings the increase. Isaiah spoke this prophetic truth… Isaiah 45:7 “I form light and create darkness. I make shalom and create calamity. I, Adonai(YHVH), do all these things.”
“Al Tish’kach” (Unless you’re a female, then it is “Al Tish’k’chi.), “Don’t forget.” Deuteronomy 8:18 Rather you are to remember Adonai your God, for it is He who gives you power to make wealth, in order to establish His covenant that He swore to your fathers—as it is this day. 19 “Now if you do forget Adonai your God,… you will certainly perish.” Through it all, keep the faith and remain unshakeable. Shalom shalom.
