RR Psalm 36:9,10 Part 4
Shalom {{firstName}},
Psalm 36:9(8) They drink their fill from the abundance of Your House. You give them drink from the river of Your delights. 10(9) For with You is the fountain of life—in Your light we see light.
These two verses are beautiful expressions of poetic language, much of it concerning drinking from a number of sources, from the “abundance of (God’s) house,” from the “river of (God’s) delights,” and finally, from the “fountain of life.” Let’s study these three ways to have our thirst satisfied one at a time. But first, we must realize that only Yeshua can satisfy our thirst, so each of these sources of satisfaction must be rooted in Him.
John 7:37 On the last and greatest day of the Feast, (which is Shemini Atzeret, the 8th day celebration at the end of Sukkot) Yeshua stood up and cried out loudly, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture says, ‘out of his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’”
Where is this written? Yeshua is referencing an abundance of fresh water as these prophets foretold… Isaiah 44:3, 55:1 and 58:11 along with Ezekiel 47 and finally Zechariah 14:8. Yeshua knew the prophesies because He is the Word, made flesh… John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and tabernacled among us. We looked upon His glory, the glory of the one and only from the Father, full of grace and truth.
First, the people of God will be satisfied in God’s house. Don’t believe me, believe the Scriptures. Psalm 84:11(10) For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else. Psalm 65:5(4) Blessed is the one You choose and bring near to dwell in Your courts! We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your House—Your holy Temple.
Then God will provide a “river of delights.” The word for river is a topographical term which can mean a brook or stream or river at the bottom of a valley, especially subject to flash floods from the winter rains. These two Hebrew words, “Nachal Adanecha,” are a reference to the willows by the brook we are commanded to gather on Sukkot, which we take along with other trees and rejoice as commanded by God.
Then finally, we are promised a fountain of life. John 4:13 Yeshua replied to her, “Everyone who drinks from this water will get thirsty again. 14 But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never be thirsty. The water that I give him will become a fountain of water within him, springing up to eternal life!” This is the promise to the people of God. May each of us be blessed and fully satisfied with all of God’s provision on this Yom Teruah (Rosh Hashana). Receive it in Yeshua’s name. Shalom shalom.
