RR Psalm 37:5 Part 3

Shalom,

Psalm 37:5 Commit your way to Adonai. Trust in Him, and He will do it.

The last two Hebrew word of this verse are, “V’Hu Ya’aseh,” meaning, “And He will make (it).  What is God going to “make?”  It is in the previous verse, “He will give you the requests of your heart.”  However; let’s keep this in perspective.  The object is for us to do His will, not for Him to do ours.

Psalm 143:10 Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God. Let Your good Ruach lead me on level ground.

I’m also interested in the Hebrew word translated as “commit.”  It is “Gol” which comes from “Galal,” meaning “roll away.”  This is hard to reconcile.  To do so, we must return to the ancient mindset.  To “roll” something was to make it easier to move.  For example, much easier to roll something into place than to lift into place.  Given that, we are talking about making it easier to match our will with God’s ways.

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in Adonai with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.

God’s “way” in scripture is likened to a highway.  At the end of this verse from Isaiah it says that even a fool won’t be able to stray from God’s highway.

Isaiah 35:8 A highway will be there—a roadway. It will be called the Way of Holiness. The unclean will not travel on it. It is for the one who walks the way. Fools will not go astray.

May your highway to heaven have no potholes.  Shalom shalom.
