RR Psalm 37:12,13 Part 9

Shalom,

Psalm 37:12 The wicked plots against the righteous and gnashes at him with his teeth. 13 The Lord laughs at him—for He sees his day is coming.

The Keil and Delitzsch commentary on these verses makes an interesting observation.  “…the Lord, who regards an assault upon the righteous as an assault upon Himself, laughs….”  Why is God laughing?  Because “He sees his day coming.”  Whose day is coming?  Maybe a better question is, “What day is coming?”  Well, it goes by many names.  Sometimes the coming day is called the “day of the Lord,” or the “day of Yeshua HaMashiach,” and sometimes it is called the “day of His vengeance.”  At other times it is simply called “Judgment Day.”

Let’s also remember this… 2Peter 3:8 But don’t forget this one thing, loved ones, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day. (Quoting Psalm 90:4)  So, when God speaks of a “day,” it can also be a period of time.

God’s joyous laughter indicates His confidence in His righteous victory on that day.   Just like “success” is made up of a series of successes, so too, victory is made up of a series of victories.  1Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, who keeps giving us the victory through our Lord Yeshua the Messiah!  Let me ask you another question, “Since God is confident in His victory, shouldn’t we also join Him in His confidence?  Philippians 1:6 I am sure of this very thing—that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the Day of Messiah Yeshua.

When Yeshua declared from the cross, “It is finished,” (John 19:30) He meant that through His sacrificial death, His victory over hell death and the grave is assured.  The third day, He rose from the dead, and we’re still celebrating today.  1Corinthians 15:54 But when this corruptible will have put on incorruptibility and this mortal will have put on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” (Quoting Hosea 13:14)

Let’s embrace the admonition of that wise Messianic rabbi who wrote the Book of Hebrews.  Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good deeds. 25 And do not neglect our own meetings, as is the habit of some, but encourage one another—and all the more so as you see the Day approaching.  Shalom shalom.
