RR Psalm 37:16,17 Part 11
Shalom,
Psalm 37:16 Better a little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked. 17 For the arms of the wicked will be broken, while Adonai upholds the righteous.
Who can the wicked help when their arms are broken? Why, they can’t even help themselves. While the wicked are not even inclined to help others, they would definitely like to help themselves. But alas, with broken arms, that’s not going to happen. David’s son, Solomon, was building on what “daddy” said, when he wrote… Proverbs 15:16 Better is little with the fear of Adonai than great wealth with turmoil.
I want to draw your attention to this teaching by Leif Hetland titled three chairs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_nftHwnA3A Let me tie Leif’s message to these verses from Psalm 37. “Stay in chair #1.” People in chair #3 have broken arms. I’ll let Leif explain the rest.
The contrast between the righteous and the wicked continues in these verses. I believe the Lord is making it abundantly clear (so that everyone is without excuse) what is the wise choice. “Choose life!” Deuteronomy 30:19 “I call the heavens and the earth to witness about you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Therefore choose life so that you and your descendants may live,
Think about the ark of the covenant. Moses called it “a witness against” the children of Israel. Deuteronomy 31:26 “Take this scroll of the Torah, and place it beside the Ark of the Covenant of Adonai your God. It will remain there as a witness against you. Yes, a witness to our wicked tendencies. Deuteronomy 31:27 for I know your rebellion and your stiff neck. Indeed, while I am still alive with you today, you have been rebellious against Adonai—how much more then after my death?
What was in the Ark? Aaron’s rod that budded almonds. The rod is a symbol of authority, a sign of sovereign government. Rebellion? Check! The Ten Commandments (Tablets), a symbol of the requirements of the Law. Rebellion? Check! Pot of Manna, a symbol of God’s provision, and our ungratefulness to it. Rebellion? Check! And finally, the scroll of the Torah itself, the foundation of the entire written Word. Rebellion? Check!
Yes, we have checked all the boxes of rebellion, proving we need the Savior. We need Yeshua to save us from all of these witnesses of condemnation. Do we need Yeshua? Check!
Hear and obey the words of Yeshua… Mark 16:16 He who believes and is immersed shall be saved, but he who does not believe shall be condemned. Do you receive it? Check! Shalom shalom.
