RR Psalm 49:1-5 Part 2

Shalom,

Psalm 49:1 For the music director: a psalm of the sons of Korah. 2 Hear this, all you peoples. Give ear, all you inhabitants of the world, 3 both low and high, rich and poor together. 4 My mouth speaks wisdom, My heart’s meditation is understanding. 5 I will turn my ear to a proverb. I will utter my riddle on the harp:

The apostle, Rav Shaul (Paul), says this about himself at the end of 1Corinthians 9.…. 1Corinthians 9:27 Rather, I punish my body and bring it into submission, so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.  Our subject Scripture begins by calling all people to “hear this” (Shim’u-Zot).  The “Shema” is reverenced in Hebrew liturgy above all others.

Rabbi Trail: The “Shema” is actually made up of three sections of Scripture.  At Shomair, we only pray the first section (Deuteronomy 6:4-9).  The other two (for your reference) are Deuteronomy 11:13-21 and Numbers 15:37-41.  End RT.

Why did I bring this up?  To make a point….  Like Rav Shaul, warning himself not to miss God’s blessing for himself while preaching it to others, so too, the Jewish people should be aware to “hear this” for themselves, lest while preaching it to the world they themselves might miss the message.  The message is the message of redemption through faith in Messiah Yeshua.  It begins in verse 6 of Psalm 49 and continues until the end of the Psalm.  Yesterday, we described this message as “wisdom” (“Cha’cha’mot” which is mentioned in verse 4).  And, there is also “understanding” (“T’vu’not” at the end of the same verse).

Like “Cha’cha’mot,” “T’vu’not” is also plural.  It means “skillful reasoning and discernment.”  Why are these words applied to set up the message of redemption?  Hearing the message of redemption not done in the ears and head alone.  These Hebrew words, “Cha’cha’mot” and “T’vu’not” require a heart connection.  The message itself is divine.  It requires a divine heart activation to be properly understood and discerned.

Romans 10:9 For if you confess with your mouth that Yeshua is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart it is believed for righteousness, and with the mouth it is confessed for salvation.

Hear, O Israel….  Let us pray in agreement with Rav Shaul…. Romans 10:1 Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and my prayer to God for Israel is for their salvation. 2 For I testify about them that they have zeal for God—but not based on knowledge.  Oh Lord, by grace make the heart connection a reality for all Israel.

Romans 11:26 and in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written, “The Deliverer shall come out of Zion. He shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob. 27 And this is My covenant with them, when I take away their sins.” Shalom shalom.
