RR Psalm 45:8(7) Part 6

Shalom {{firstName}},

Rabbi Trail:  Oops, it happened again!  Most of you will never know if I make an error with my Hebrew lessons but our dear friend and faithful reader, Eitan Shishkoff (hello Eitan) does.  Last Friday he let me know, and I’m passing the correction along to you.  From Eitan, “Beloved friend, I’m continuing to enjoy your journey through Psalms.  One small Hebrew correction. Witness = ed  and Until = ad or ahd. They were reversed in your comments.  If you know the word for testimony עדות (Edut) it’s easy to remember by seeing the עד at the beginning of that word.”  Thank you, Eitan.  End RT.

Psalm 45:8 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness. Therefore, God, your God, anointed you with the oil of gladness above your companions.

In the first part of this verse, God is defining holiness by what He loves (righteousness, “Tzedek”) and by what He hates (wickedness, “Rasha”).  Psalm 5:5 For You are not a God who rejoices in evil. No wickedness dwells with you.  Jerry Miller wrote yesterday (Sunday, January 25, 2026) how our goal is to abide (dwell) in Him.  If we embrace evil in our hearts, we will not be accepted into God’s neighborhood (“Shechunah” same Shoresh as Sha’ke’nah, God’s glory).

Jacob 4:7 Therefore submit to God. But resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded!

Of course holiness is loving righteousness and hating evil.  Matthew 7:23  Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in Your name, and drive out demons in Your name, and perform many miracles in Your name?’ 23 Then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you. Get away from Me, you workers of lawlessness!’”

One last question today… Who is receiving the promised anointing.  “Yeshua HaMashiach” literally means “the anointed Savior.”  Of course Yeshua is receiving the promised anointing, AND those of us who follow Him also have that promise.

1John 2:20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know.

Read the context of this verse.  The anti-messiahs are called out for doing evil and are no longer among those Who have this anointing through the Holy Spirit to follow Yeshua.  As Jerry Miller said, “Guard your hearts.”

Ephesians 4:1 Therefore I, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you were called— 2 with complete humility and gentleness, with patience, putting up with one another in love, 3 making every effort to keep the unity of the Ruach in the bond of shalom.

Shalom shalom!
