RR THE ONE AND ONLY YOU (Part 1) The Amazing Mystery of Light and You By Dr. Raymond Finney
Shavuah Tov,
Some persons (including you?) may occasionally feel “down.” Thoughts may include: Does anyone love me? Am I worth anything to anyone? Does my life have meaning? When I die, will anyone really care or remember me? Have I done enough with my only life? Have I failed God? My family? Myself?
There is good news for all of us. Of the billions of persons now living on earth, every person is (and you are) unique. There has never been anyone like you in the world’s history. There will never be anyone like you as long as humans roam the earth. There is only one you. And, you are known to God and greatly loved by Him.
In this brief RR series, I explore a few ways in which you are unique among others of “Adam’s race.” The Creator of the Universe holds each person in His loving hands and heart. We are each made one of a kind. (See multiple Scriptures compiled in https://biblestudyforyou.com/best-bible-verses-about-being-unique-and-special/ ).
The first man in God’s image (Adam) was created directly by God. (Genesis 2:7: Then Adonai Elohim formed the man out of the dust from the ground and He breathed into his nostrils a breath of life– so that man became a living being.) Elohim’s “breath of life” is the eternal soul. God created woman for companionship of and help for Adam and for procreation (family). The man’s name was Adam (“Man”) and the woman’s name was Chavvah (“Life Giver,” whom we also call “Eve,” but a transliteration of “Eve” is not included in the Tanakh).
God (Elohim) has no human physical features. He is a Spirit. His “image,” transferred to each of us, is our soul. Tanakh Hebrew uses the word ruach, which may be translated “breath, spirit, wind.” B’rit Chadashah Greek uses the word pneuma, which has identical translations of “breath, spirit, wind.”
Scientists claim the earth was created billions of years ago, later to be populated by humanoids (Neanderthals, etc.). I read nothing in the Bible to challenge this view. Adam may not have been the first human, but he was the first human “made in God’s image.” That is, Adam, created in God’s image, was the first human to be given an eternal soul. Chavvah (Eve) was created from Adam’s rib. The author of Genesis does not explain this unusual method of reproduction, but I wonder if this was some sort of “soul transplant” (a body part taken from soul-bearing Adam placed into soulless Chavvah to make her equal to Adam for the inheritance of eternity).
We must never lose sight of our value in God’s heart. All humans (including you) have an eternal soul thanks to the grace and love of Father God and our ancient father and mother, Adam and Chavvah (Eve).
Every person is of great value to God. (Luke 12:6-7: [Yeshua said] “Aren’t five sparrows being sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten before God. 7 Indeed, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.”) Here, a “penny” (Greek assarion) was a small, nearly worthless Roman copper coin (one-tenth of a drachma). Yeshua told us that a sparrow has little value, but we, who are made in the image of Elohim (God), have great value.
THE MYSTERY OF LIGHT AND YOU. The Scriptural use of light and darkness is fascinating. Consider:
** Yeshua is the Light of the world. (John 8:12: Yeshua spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. The one who follows Me will no longer walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”) Before Yeshua ascended to the Father, He transferred His light to His followers that it may shine to others (Matthew 5:14a-16: [Yeshua said] “You are the light of the world…. [L]et your light shine before men so they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”)
** Does light bracket a person’s life? My wife and I are parents of four children. Their conception was hidden inside my wife’s body. (Psalm 139:13b-16: … You [Adonai] knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise You, for I am awesomely, wonderfully made. Wonderful are Your works— and my soul knows that very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw me when I was unformed, and in Your book were written the days that were formed— when not one of them had come to be.)
** With in vitro fertilization (medically assisted pregnancy conception), the union of egg and sperm can be observed with a microscope. Of the many thousands of sperm released by the father, only one enters the egg (ovum). Half of a baby’s chromosomes (22 autosomes and one X chromosome) come from the mother. The other half of the baby’s chromosomes (22 autosomes and a sex chromosome-- either an X, forming a girl, or Y, forming a boy) come from the father. The fertilized egg (future baby) now has 23 pairs of chromosomes, half from the mother’s half cell (an ovum or egg cell) and half from the father’s half cell (a sperm cell). This fertilized egg (a now-complete single cell) will develop into a baby. The mysterious miracle of life is contained in these two microscopic specks of DNA joined together in “the secret place” (Psalm 139:15). Delivered approximately forty weeks later, this baby is unique. There will never be another baby with this precise chromosomal makeup, no matter how many siblings he or she may have and no matter how large grows the earth’s population.
During in vitro fertilization, researchers can observe under laboratory conditions (special microscope and light) the moment a sperm cell enters an egg. At the precise moment of fertilization, there is a microscopic flash of fluorescent light from the egg’s surface. Scientists call this burst of light the "zinc spark” (“zinc sparks”). See: https://www.madriverbirthandwellness.com/blog/Zinc-Spark -- AND -- https://www.groundreport.in/latest/fact-check-when-sperm-fertilizes-an-egg-a-tiny-flash-appears-8964328/ -- AND – https://www.nature.com/articles/srep24737. Scientists explain the physiology of this light flash, but I like to think the Light of the world (Yeshua) makes Himself available (announces Himself) to the next generation of life. (John 1:9: The true light, coming into the world, gives light to every man.)
** During life, the human body emits a very faint light. This light (photons)-- Ultraweak Photon Emission (UPE)-- exists throughout life. The light is immediately extinguished at death. The light is the result of cells’ metabolism (use of nutrients for production of energy and other functions). Think of a body’s billions of cells as billions of tiny “furnaces.” Bloodstream oxygen passes into cells to “burn” glucose, fats, and other “fuels,” giving off heat, light, and waste products (such as, carbon dioxide), while serving many life needs. Although invisible to the naked eye, a human’s light energy can be captured with special cameras.
** Throughout new creations of life (me, you, all persons) as long as we live, we may be invited by the Ruach ha-Kodesh to follow the Light of the world. The Light awaits an invitation to save a person’s soul. To invite the Light into the heart is to achieve eternal reward in Heaven.
** All persons die. No person knows what happens after true death. Even the Apostle Paul couched eternal life only as a “blessed hope.” (Titus 2:13: We wait for the blessed hope and appearance of the glory of our great God and Savior, Messiah Yeshua.) When I die, I know death is final. I will not return to write a RR (“My Experiences When I Died.”) With cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), we can perhaps come closer to understanding death. Some people have experienced the early stages of death, but have been resuscitated to life. This experience has been called a “near-death experience” (NDE). I have talked to a number of persons about their NDEs. NDE is a truly fascinating phenomenon. In my recent bout with COVID, I underwent two cardiac arrests. I am grateful to be resuscitated, of course, but I regret I did not have a NDE. There is a Website of the Near-Death Experience Research Foundation in which are collected at this time more than 5,300 NDE accounts. You will be fascinated by reading some of these accounts at http://nderf.org/ .
I mention the NDE because a common feature involves light. Many NDE survivors report a small light (as though in the end of a tunnel). The light grows bigger. The “dead” person is drawn toward the light, as the light engulfs him/her. The light is described as being the brightest light ever seen, but vision is not harmed and the light causes no discomfort. The light emits a never-before experienced level of peace, love, forgiveness, and all of the attributes one would presume to be like Yeshua. Is this brilliant light the Light of the world (Yeshua), welcoming the “dead” person home? When you experience final death, will the Light welcome you into Paradise? Is your earthly life bracketed by light at its beginning (“zinc spark” at conception) and at death (“light in the tunnel”)?
** The goal of every Believer surely is to gain eternal life in New Jerusalem (Heaven). John was granted the privilege of glimpsing a little of Heaven, which he recorded in the last two chapters of The Revelation. Heaven will not have some things we have on earth. There will be no sea, tears, Temple, sun or moon, locked gates, sin, curse, birthdays, or marriage. Another thing missing in Heaven is there is no night or darkness. (Revelation 21:25b: … for there shall be no night there!) In Heaven, the Light (Yeshua) will dwell. And, God, depicted as Light, will also be there. (1 John 1:5-6: Now this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you— that God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with Him and keep walking in the darkness, we are lying and do not practice the truth.)
** Even after death, you will be unique. At your Bema Judgment (Judgment Seat of HaMashiach), you will be judged for your kind acts toward others in God’s name (how you handled the Light entrusted to you). Even small acts of kindness will be accounted to you. You will be (or not be) awarded crowns. No person will be awarded the same crowns you received because of your specific acts. You enter eternity as one-of-a-kind Believer.
** Think about the significance of light. A flash of light occurs at the moment of conception. Every human has a faint glow as long as there is life. The Light of the world stands ready to extend the grace of God to those whose names will be inscribed in the Lamb’s Book of Life. At death, we may travel toward a beautiful, serene Light. Wise (saved) Believers live eternally in Heaven, an indescribably beautiful place free of darkness and without need for a sun or moon (time is abolished as we live in beautiful light). Each person is (you are) blessedly unique because he/she is (you are) beloved by the Creator of the Universe with the opportunity to follow the Light of the world to achieve immortality in Heaven.
Today, I discuss your relationship to God in Three Persons– especially the Light of the world (Yeshua). You are uniquely created by God. God loves you in special ways. In the future, I will discuss other ways that you are one of a kind. There never was and never will again be another you. God loves you because of your uniqueness, and He created your uniqueness for a reason. You should love the Triune God because there is no other god. (1 Chronicles 17:20a: [David said] “Adonai, there is none like You and there is no other god besides You,….”) Other Scriptures confirm that Adonai, Yeshua, and the Ruach ha-Kodesh are unique and deserve our undivided love and worship. (Acts 4:12: [Peter said] “There is salvation in no one else [except Yeshua], for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved!”) Until we meet again, you unique child of God, Shalom and Maranatha.
