RR Psalm 46:5-8(4-7) Part 6

Shalom,

Psalm 46:5 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God—the holy dwelling place of Elyon. 6 God is in the midst of her, she will not be shaken. God will help her when morning dawns. 7 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms totter, He utters His voice, the earth melts! 8 Adonai-Tzva’ot is with us. The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah

Today, we focus on verse 8.  The song in Hebrew that uses Psalm 46, verse 2 as the chorus, uses verse 8 as the verse.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pg2tFM22PSI   Together, those verses translate into English as, Psalm 46:2 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble…. 8 Adonai-Tzva’ot is with us. The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah!

The Hebrew word for “stronghold” is “Misgav.”  It is a place of safety, a strong tower.  It is related etymologically to “Sagav” (Sin-Gimel-Bet) meaning safe and secure, up high, and (I like this one) inaccessible.  To quote the song, “No place I would rather be, than here is Your love.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTJMN5gj5SY    Lyrics and music courtesy of United Pursuit and Knoxville’s own Will Reagan.  The last verse of Psalm 60 captures my heart.  Psalm 60:14(12) With God we will do mighty things, and He will trample our foes.

Verse 8 begins, “Adonai-Tzva’ot is with us.”  Other scriptures confirm this, and it is, per se, beyond question (Isaiah 7:14 is fulfilled in Matthew 1:23).  The question each of us must answer is in Hebrew, “A’fuch,” meaning, “opposite.”  “Am I with God?”

Yeshua says, John 14:6 Yeshua said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life! No one comes to the Father except through Me.  The earliest followers of Yeshua were called, “followers of the way.”  Do what He does and you belong to Him.  Step one, hear His voice… John 10:27 My sheep hear My voice. I know them, and they follow Me. 28 I give them eternal life! They will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of My hand.

Step two, answer His call.  Luke 9:23 Then Yeshua was saying to everyone, “If anyone wants to follow Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross every day, and follow Me.”  Then He will be your place of refuge.  Psalm 91:2 I will say of Adonai, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.  Shalom shalom.
