RR Psalm 45:17,18(16,17) Part 12

Shalom,

Psalm 45:Psa 45:17 Your sons will take your fathers’ place. You will make them princes throughout the land. 18 I will cause your name to be remembered in all generations. Therefore the nations will praise you forever and ever.

Like most Psalms, this Psalm ends on a positive note.  We start with a multi-generational promise.  Three generations receive the promise (you, your fathers, and your sons), and the promise is to be made princes (in Hebrew, “Sarit,” throughout the land.  Psalm 149:2 Let Israel rejoice in its Maker. Let the children of Zion be glad in their King…. 4 For Adonai takes pleasure in His people. He crowns the humble with salvation. 5a Let the kedoshim exult in glory.

Rabbi Trail:  Here are two Hebrew words spelled the same with different meanings.  We call them homographs in English (lead and lead, tear and tear).  One of the possible etymologies of the word “Yisrael” is “He will (Y) be a prince (SAR) of God (EL).”  The other possibility is from Genesis 32:29 Then He said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but rather Israel, for you have struggled (Sarah - “Sin-Resh-Hey,” this same spelling is also Sarah’s name which means “princess.”) with God and with men, and you have overcome.”  With Whom did Jacob wrestle?  With Whom was he speaking?

We are never told specifically.  Genesis 32:30 Then Jacob asked and said, “Please tell me Your name.” But He said, “What’s this—you are asking My name?” Then He blessed him there.  What we do know is that Jacob (now Israel) knew with Whom he had wrestled.  Genesis 32:31 So Jacob named the place Peniel, “for I’ve seen God face to face, and my life has been spared.”  But we know His name, and it is Yeshua!  End RT.

Our inheritance (as children of God) is His kingdom.  Romans 8:16 The Ruach Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. 17 And if children, also heirs—heirs of God and joint-heirs with Messiah—if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.

God is our King and we shall rule and reign together with Him.  Revelation 5:9 And they are singing a new song, saying, “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals. For You were slain, and by Your blood You redeemed for God those from every tribe and tongue and people and nation. 10 You have made them for our God a kingdom and kohanim, and they shall reign upon the earth.”

What is left, but to praise His name for all eternity?  Psalm 72:17 May his name endure forever. May his name increase before the sun, and may all nations be blessed by Him and call Him blessed. 18 Blessed be Adonai Elohim, God of Israel, Who alone does wonders. 19 Blessed be His glorious Name forever. May all the earth be filled with His glory! Amen and Amen!  Shalom shalom.
