RR Psalm 45:6(5) Part 4
Shalom,
Psalm 45:6 Your arrows are sharp. Peoples fall beneath you—into the heart of the king’s enemies.
We are moving slowly through these verses so as not to miss the intended Messianic prophecy. Let’s review… the “King” addressed in verse 2 is described in verse 3 as a man who is according to Psalm 45:3b …the most handsome of the sons of men. Grace pours from Your lips. Therefore God has blessed you forever. “Chen” is translated “grace,” while “Al Ken” is translated accurately, “therefore.” “Al” (Ayin-Lamed) is a preposition meaning “on, about, or concerning.” “Ken” is how we affirm something is true. Colloquially, we use this word, “Ken” as “yes.” So an amplified translation would be “this is certainly true, and we say ‘yes’ to it,… God has blessed You for all eternity.”
Rabbi Trail: The Hebrew word “Ken” is derived from “Kun” which means, “may this be established.” When we answer “yes” to something, we are essentially saying “may this be established as true. Who would have thought a simple word like “yes” would have so much nuance? End RT.
Our subject verse today provides a further description of this One Who is so blessed. His “arrows are sharp.” Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Which sets up Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword—piercing right through to a separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Finally, peoples (many people groups) fall under this One Who has sharp arrows. Those arrows are shot directly into the heart of the King’s enemies. I love using Scripture to explain Scripture. Isaiah prophesied over the Son of God… Isaiah 49:1c Adonai called Me from the womb, from My mother’s belly He named Me. 2 He made My mouth like a sharp sword. in the shadow of His hand He hid Me. He made Me a polished arrow, He has hidden Me in His quiver…. 3 He said to Me, “You are My servant, Israel, in whom I will be glorified.”…5 So now says Adonai, who formed Me from the womb to be His servant, to bring Jacob back to Him, to gather Israel back to Him. For I am honored in the eyes of Adonai and My God has become my strength. 6b “So I will give You as a light for the nations, that You should be My salvation to the end of the earth.”
Yes and amen… Isaiah 55:10 For as the rain and snow come down from heaven, and do not return there without having watered the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to sow and bread to eat, 11 so My word will be that goes out from My mouth. It will not return to Me in vain, but will accomplish what I intend, and will succeed in what I sent it. Shalom shalom.
