RR Psalm 46:5-8(4-7) – Part 4

Shalom,

Psalm 46:5 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God—the holy dwelling place of Elyon. 6 God is in the midst of her, she will not be shaken. God will help her when morning dawns. 7 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms totter, He utters His voice, the earth melts! 8 Adonai-Tzva’ot is with us. The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah

Ahhh, there is a river of grace that makes those who live in the Temple of God glad.  Such language is the poet describing the flow of God’s people (city of God).  And why are they (we) are happy being carried along by the flow of grace?  For starters, they (we) are not hungry nor thirsty.  Also, they (we) are not afraid nor in despair.  We are safe and secure, being carried along in the flow of the love of God.

Psalm 65:5 Blessed is the one You choose and bring near to dwell in Your courts! We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your House—Your holy Temple.

Those who have dedicated their lives to the ways of this world are “swimming” against the flow of the river of God.  Theirs is a life of frustration as they “kick against the goads.”  Paul said as much when he was testifying to Festus.  Act 26:14 “When we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick against goads!’”

To “go with the flow” of God, we must obey His commands.  John 14:15 “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”  And, this is amplified in First John… 1John 2:4 The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

The last chapter of the Bible begins with this vision… Revelation 22:1 Then the angel showed me a river of the water of life—bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 down the middle of the city’s street. On either side of the river was a tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

If you follow Yeshua, then you are one of those leaves, whose calling is to “heal the nations.”  Now, we who follow Yeshua may eat of the tree of life.  Those 12 fruits represent the totality of God’s perfect government.  The “rules” of God’s perfect administration (government) are found in His law.  Psalm 19:8 The Torah of Adonai is perfect, restoring the soul. The testimony of Adonai is trustworthy, making the simple wise. 9 The precepts of Adonai are right, giving joy to the heart. The mitzvot of Adonai are pure, giving light to the eyes.  May we all “go forth” (and flow forth) in victory.  Shalom shalom.
