RR Psalm 47:1-4(1-3) Part 3

Shalom,

Psalm 47:1(1) For the music director, a psalm for the sons of Korah.
2 Clap your hands, all you peoples! Shout to God with the voice of joy! 3(2) For Adonai Elyon is awesome, a great King over all the earth. 4(3) He shall choose our inheritance for us, the excellency of Jacob whom he loved. Selah.

In verse 2, the “nations” (all you peoples) are commanded to “shout to God.”  Seems like a common mistake that the nations forget to Whom they are shouting with joy.  This is the God of Israel.  Pharaoh was told many times that he was commanded by “Adonai(YHVH), the God of Israel, to “let My people go.”

My point here is that in this Psalm (47), and verse 2, there is a switch.  The revelation is that the “God of Israel” has now become the God of “all you peoples.”  The “Shema” (Deuteronomy 6:4) identifies the people of Israel, and commands them to listen (obey) God, Who is also called “our God,” Who is One!

The Hebrew word for “peoples” is “Amim.”  God has a people who belong to Him.  That “people” is the Children of Israel. The rest of the peoples of the earth become His people by being grafted into that “cultivated olive tree.”  These righteous from the nations become God’s people by being grafted into the children of Israel.  And yes, there is a future for the natural branches also.

Romans 11:24 For if you were cut out of that which by nature is a wild olive tree, and grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these natural branches be grafted into their own olive tree?

So, who are God’s people.  Is it Israel, or is it the peoples from the whole earth?  Say “yes” to both and you will be correct.

Ephesians 2:12 At that time you were separate from Messiah, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Messiah Yeshua, you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of the Messiah. 14 For He is our shalom, the One who made the two into one and broke down the middle wall of separation.  And yes, there will be more on this tomorrow.  Shalom shalom.
