Shalom,

Day 16 of counting the Omer

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, אֲשֶׁר קִדְּשָֽׁנוּ בְּמִצְוֹתָיו, וְצִוָּֽנוּ עַל סְפִירַת הָעֹֽמֶר

Baruch Atah Adonai Elohenu Melech Ha-Olam, Asher Kid’shanu B’mitzvotav, Vitzivanu Al Sefirat Ha-Omer.

Blessed are You O Lord our God, King of the universe, who has sanctified us by his commandments and commanded us about the counting of the Omer.  Today is two weeks and two days of the counting of the Omer.

Follow up that prayer by remembering a blessing from the Lord and give Him thanks.  Ephesians 5:20 always giving thanks for everything to God the Father, in the name of the Lord Yeshua the Messiah.

Psalm 28:7 – Part 7

Psalm 28:7 Adonai is my strength and my shield. My heart trusts in Him, and I was helped. Therefore my heart leaps for joy, and I will praise Him with my song.

This is the second of four verses at the end of Psalm 28.  Together they form a burst of praise and exaltation to the Lord.  This one, in particular, is multi-dimensional, being made up of four declarations itself.  Let’s deal with each of them individually.  First, Psalm 28:7a Adonai is my strength and my shield.

There are three Hebrew words… First is Yehovah(YHVH) is translated by the sages as “Adonai,” which is a substitute (see below).

Rabbi Trail: The tetragrammaton is made up of four Hebrew letters, “Yud-Hey-Vav-Hey.”  They are the first letters of each word in the Hebrew for “He will be, He is, AND He was.”  (The “Vav” means “and”.)  This is the very name God uses to identify Himself to Moses and throughout Scripture.  The rabbis have long believed this holy name for God is ineffable, meaning unmentionable.

It is only permitted to be spoken aloud by the High Priest, and then only once a year, on Yom Kippur afternoon when he is in the Holy of Holies before the Ark of the Covenant.  They use “Adonai” as a substitute (meaning “my Lord”), and then only when actually praying a real liturgical prayer.  At all other times (such as when reading Scripture) another substitute for Adonai is used, “HaShem,” meaning “the name.”  God always wants His people to call Him by His real name.

Exodus 6:2 God spoke further to Moses and said to him, “I am Adonai(YHVH). 3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob, as El Shaddai. Yet by My Name, Adonai(YHVH), I made Myself known to them.

God actually first uses this name as His own back in Genesis 2… Genesis 2:4 These are the genealogical records of the heavens and the earth when they were created, at the time when Adonai(YHVH) Elohim made land and sky.

Rabbi’s note: “Yahweh” is a false pronunciation that comes out of a poor attempt to say the four consonants, Yud-Hey-Vav-Hey, without any vowels.  Some have falsely claimed that since we don’t have the vowels, we can’t know how to pronounce it properly.  That’s just not true.  None of Hebrew had vowel markings (called “Nikkud” meaning “dots”) until the early 5th century.  Yehovah is the only way those four Hebrew letters could possibly be pronounced.  Anyone who knows Hebrew knows that.

God uses the Tetragrammaton as His name more than 6,200 times throughout the Hebrew Scriptures.  It is a great accomplishment of HaSatan that God’s people don’t know God’s name and use it.  End RT.

The second Hebrew word of Psalm 28, verse 7 is a word you may already know, “Uzzi,” meaning “my strength.”  Although it is also the name of the Israeli machine gun, (named after the first name of its inventor, Major Uziel "Uzi" Gal, who produced the first Uzzi machine gun in 1950), “Oz” is Hebrew for “strength,” and “Uzzi” means “my strength.”  My “take-away” is that when God is the source of your strength, you cannot be defeated.

Isaiah 54:17 No weapon formed against you will prosper… This is the heritage of Adonai’s servants… It is a declaration of Adonai.

Are you feeling empowered today?  The last Hebrew word of this first phrase is “U’Magini” meaning “and my shield.  God first declares Himself as a shield to Father Abraham (when he was still Abram).

Genesis 15:1 After these things the word of Adonai(YHVH) came to Abram in a vision saying, “Do not fear, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.”

As children of Abraham (all followers of Yeshua are children of Abraham), we all have this same promise.  Galatians 3:6 Just as Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” 7 know then that those who have faith are children of Abraham. 8 The Scriptures, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, proclaimed the Good News to Abraham in advance, saying, “All the nations shall be blessed through you.”

Tomorrow we’ll break down part two.  Shalom shalom.
