RR Psalm 44:18-22(17-21) Part 5
Shalom,
Psalm 44:18 All this came upon us, though we did not forget You, nor were we false to Your covenant. 19 Our heart did not turn back, nor did our steps stray from Your path. 20 Yet You crushed us in a place of jackals, covered us with the shadow of death. 21 If we had forgotten the Name of our God or stretched our hands to a foreign god, 22 would God not have discovered it? For He knows the secrets of the heart.
Verse 20 speaks of “a place of jackals, covered… with the shadow of death.” Sounds ominous doesn’t it? Sounds like a forsaken wilderness, and it is. The Psalm makes some bold assertions here that could be hard to justify. We did not forget God? Really? Sounds like we did… 1Samuel 12:9 But they forgot Adonai their God, so He gave them over into the hand of Sisera, captain of the army of Hazor, into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, who fought against them.
There are two ways to look at this. First, while some did forget God, there are others who did not. Therefore; the whole of the people are saved by the righteous remnant. Secondly, the people may have forgotten God for a season, but they have always returned to righteousness.
Finally for today, nothing is hidden from God, “For He knows the secrets of the heart.” Hebrews 4:13 No creature is hidden from Him, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. A teaching by Alisha Britt Chole called “living in the plural” can help us with this. https://www.tiktok.com/@hillsongchurch/video/7525313381562158349 I think this clip is about 30 second long. If what we’re thinking or doing would not be thought or done with Yeshua, should we risk doing or thinking it without Him? May we all live transparently before the Lord. Shalom shalom.
