RR Psalm 41:6-8(5-7) Part 5
Shalom,
Psalm 41:6(5) My enemies speak evil about me: “When will he die and his name perish?” 7(6) And if someone of them comes to see me, he speaks falsely. He stores up evil in his heart, then he goes out and chatters. 8(7) All who hate me whisper together about me. They imagine the worst about me:
Rabbi Trail: After reading our subject verses today, this quote came to mind. “Just because you’re paranoid, doesn't mean they’re not out to get you.” I looked it up so I would know to whom it should be attributed. Some say Woody Allen, while others say Joseph Heller from his satirical novel, “Catch-22.” In either case, these are not good sources for an RR, which is why it is in a RT, so let’s just forget the whole thing. End RT.
At the beginning of the Psalm, the author is valuing how he regards the weak and frail… Psalm 41:2a Blessed is the one who considers the wretched… 3a Adonai will protect him and keep him alive. Then, only a few verses later, the author is writing about his mistreatment by his enemies. Psalm 41:6a My enemies speak evil about me.
This presents quite a contrast. It is the difference between rightly relating to God and the world and being mistreated, and the mistreatment is extensive. “He (my enemies) speaks falsely, stores up evil, chatters, whispers, and even imagines the worst.”
Zechariah sees Joshua, who is Yeshua, and the satan (adversary) who is accusing Him.
Zechariah 3:1 Then he showed me Joshua the kohen gadol standing before the angel of Adonai and the satan, standing at his right hand to accuse him. 2 Adonai said to the satan, ‘Adonai rebukes you, the satan. Indeed Adonai, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebukes you. Is not this man a brand plucked out of the fire?’
That last phrase, “a brand plucked out of the fire,” is a poetic way to describe salvation, which is the translation of Yeshua’s name. Read the rest of Zechariah, chapter 3. It tells Yeshua’s story of taking on the sins of the world and enjoying the fulness of the victory.
Zechariah 3:7 ‘Thus says Adonai-Tzva’ot, “If you will walk in My ways and keep My charge, then you will judge My House and watch over My courts and I will give you a place to walk among these standing here.
Those enemies who accuse have another destiny altogether… Isaiah 54:17 No weapon formed against you will prosper and you will condemn every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of Adonai’s servants—their vindication is from Me.” It is a declaration of Adonai. Shalom shalom.
