RR Psalm 40:16-18(15-17) Part 13

Shalom,

The coming Sunday night is the first light of Chanukah.  There is still time to prepare, but time is short.  Chanukah is the feast of dedication, also known as the festival of lights.  Jan and I want to wish each of you a very happy Chanukah, as we pray the light of Yeshua will burn brighter day by day for each of you.  Shalom shalom.

John 1:4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.…9 The true light, coming into the world, gives light to every man. John 8:12 Yeshua spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. The one who follows Me will no longer walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Psalm 40:16 Let those who say to me, “Aha! Aha!” be appalled over their own shame. 17 Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You. Let those who love Your salvation continually say: “Adonai be magnified!” 18 But I—I am poor and needy—yet my Lord is mindful of me. You are my help and my deliverer—O my God, do not delay!

Today we conclude our devotional series on Psalm 40.  These last three verses provide an excellent summary of the previous 15 with the recurring themes of God’s victory and His (our) enemies’ defeat.  The salvation of God is mentioned with love and favor in verse 17.  The “Salvation of God” is a person.  This person was prophesied throughout scripture by every Hebrew prophet.  Many (but not all) rabbis missed the day of their visitation, but that doesn’t mean must follow them blindly.

Isaiah lived about 700 years before Yeshua, when he prophesied this… Isaiah 11:1 Then a shoot will come forth out of the stem of Jesse, and a branch will bear fruit out of His roots. 2 The Ruach of Adonai will rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and insight, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of Adonai.  That certainly sounds like a person to me.  The use of “BRANCH” is a play on words.  In Hebrew, “branch” is “Netzer,” which is where we get the name of the town of Nazareth.

What about Jeremiah and Ezekiel?

Jeremiah 23:5 “Behold, days are coming”—it is a declaration of Adonai—“when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and He will reign as king wisely, and execute justice and righteousness in the land.

When righteousness (priest) and royalty (king) come together, that has always been understood by the rabbis to mean “Mashiach.”  It is the meaning of Melchizedek, a compound name meaning “righteous king.”  He first appears in Genesis 14:18,19, then Psalm 110:4 before being mentioned again throughout the book of Hebrews and other place in the New Testament.  Then Ezekiel prophesies…

Ezekiel 1:26 Above the expanse over their heads was something like a throne, resembling a sapphire stone. Above the shape of the throne was a figure of human appearance.

That “figure of human appearance” speaks to Ezekiel for the next several chapters, prophesying repeatedly over Israel.  Who is this figure?  Two verses later, he is a “man of divine appearance.

Ezekiel 1:28b …It was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of Adonai….

Lord, remove the spiritual blindness from Your people Israel.  May Israel behold Your Son!  Matthew 2:1 Now after Yeshua was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, magi from the east came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is the One who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”  Shalom shalom.
