RR Psalm 40:7(6) Part 5

(Early) Shabbat Shalom,

Psalm 40:7 Sacrifice and offering You did not desire—my ears You have opened—burnt offering and sin offering You did not require.

Well, well, well!!! What have we here?  These next few verses offer nothing other than the Gospel (the good news of Who Yeshua is) in plain speech for everyone to read and receive.  This is in the Hebrew Bible.  The language is unmistakeable.

Ask any rabbi, “How do you interpret these next few verses of Psalm 40?  About Whom are they written?”  The only thing of which I am sure, is that he/she will tell you, “I don’t know, but it’s not Yeshua.”  Another rabbi (many believe it was Paul) who wrote the book of Hebrews, knew something definitive about these verses.

Hebrews 10:5 So when Messiah comes into the world, He says, “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You prepared for Me. 6 In whole burnt offerings and sin offerings You did not delight.”

This is so good, I hate to put it down, but the holiday is upon us, and I have other commitments.  But before we say good-bye for the weekend, I want to make one more observation… In Psalm 39 there were numerous places in which we lamented life is but a vapor, so brief and without meaning.  Now, only one Psalm later, in Psalm 40, we are establishing the purpose and meaning of life, which is only found in Messiah Yeshua.  Happy Thanksgiving everybody.  Colossians 2:6 Therefore as you received Messiah Yeshua as Lord, so continue to walk in Him— 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in your faith just as you were taught, overflowing with thankfulness.  Shalom shalom.
