RR Psalm 38:17-19(16-18) Part 8

Shalom,

Psalm 38:17 For I said: “Don’t let them gloat over me or exalt themselves over me, when my foot slips.” 18 For I am about to fall, and my pain is before me constantly. 19 So I confess my guilt. I am troubled because of my sin.

David is clearly writing about himself here.  “For I am about to fall,” and “So I confess my guilt,” was never prophesied over Yeshua.  Yet, throughout this Psalm, David continuously returns to the Lord for help in time of trouble (and so should we all).  However; he won’t be ready to fully express this until verse 22.  For now, we must realize that David is writing our story, and it is a theme he will visit often.  Here are two quick examples…

Psalm 25:2 O my God, in You I trust, so I will not be ashamed, and my enemies will not gloat over me.

Psalm 138:7 Though I walk amid trouble, You revive me. You stretch out Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand delivers me.

Yeshua introduced the next step, which is less self centered… Matthew  5:44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.  Peter carried this yet a step further.  1Peter 3:9 Do not repay evil for evil or insult for insult, but give a blessing instead—it is for this reason you were called, so that you might inherit a blessing.

Yeshua gets the last word today… Luke 6:27 “But I say to you who are listening: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for the ones who mistreat you.  Shalom shalom.
