RR Psalm 38:13-16(12-15) Part 7

(Early) Shabbat Shalom,

Psalm 38:13 They who seek my life set traps. Those who seek my hurt threaten destruction, uttering lies all day. 14 But I, like someone deaf, hear nothing, like a mute, not opening his mouth. 15 Yes, I am like one who cannot hear, whose mouth has no arguments. 16 But I wait for You, Adonai—You will answer, O Lord my God.

The tension between good and evil continues.  King David wrote about it approximately 3,000 years ago.  Amazingly, the story is still the same today as it was then.  There is truth and there is untruth, called “lies” in our subject text.  We’re going to see that the answer to being lied about is not to shout the truth louder, but to wait on the Lord and let Him answer for us.

Is there other Scriptural support for this?  Psalm 31:19(18) Let the lying lips be mute. For they speak arrogantly against the righteous, with pride and contempt.  Isaiah also prophesied (spoke on behalf of God)… Isaiah 54:17 No weapon formed against you will prosper and you will condemn every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of Adonai’s servants—their vindication is from Me.” It is a declaration of Adonai.

When Isaiah says, “… you will condemn every tongue that rises against you…,” the Hebrew word for “condemn” is “Rasha,” which means “evil.”  Isaiah is telling us to know when someone is speaking evil, for the Lord’s declaration continues, “…their vindication is from Me.”

David declares that he’s not going to defend himself, but put his confidence in the Lord.  Yeshua is our example… Isaiah 53:7b …like a sheep before its shearers is silent, so He did not open His mouth.  Yeshua became one of us.  He is the Shepherd Who became like a lamb to show us the path of righteousness.  John 1:29 “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! 30a This is the One about whom I told you….”

Rabbi Trail: I’m so glad John the Baptist spoke proper English, refusing to end a sentence with a preposition.  End RT.

Let’s join Yeshua, in the fellowship of His suffering… 1Peter 2:25 For you like sheep were going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.  Thus, we learn the art of keeping silent, as we let God speak for us.  Shalom shalom.
