RR Psalm 37:27,28 Part 17

Shalom,

Psalm 37:27 Turn from evil and do good, so you may live forever. 28 For Adonai loves justice and does not abandon His godly ones. They will be preserved forever, but the seed of the wicked will be cut off.

What will it be?  Before we get to the “preserved or cut off” choice of verse 28, we have to deal with the “depart and do” command of verse 27!  Depart from evil and do good.  Sounds simple until you have to deal with “50 shades of gray.” (And, if you’re looking at the gray, you’re already in the weeds.)  Thank God that His kingdom is either righteousness or sinful, right or wrong, holy or profane, good or evil, black or white.  And none of those are about what makes you feel good.

Every sinner says, “I only do what feels right to me.”  The word “father” means “determiner.”  The father is the decision maker.  Our Father in heaven decides what sin is.  The Scriptures He gave us define the path of righteousness and everything else is sin (leads to darkness)… 1John 3:4 Whosoever commits sin transgresses also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. (NKJV)

And that same chapter goes on to make this clear distinction…. 1John 3:7 Children, let no one mislead you! The one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as Yeshua is righteous. 8 The one who practices sin is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. Ben-Elohim appeared for this purpose—to destroy the works of the devil.

God wants us to know Him and His ways.  The enemy of God is the one who sows confusion.  Here, Jacob declares that “every evil practice” is “earthly, unspiritual (and) demonic.”

Jacob 3:15  This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil practice. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial, not hypocritical. 18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in shalom by those who make shalom.

Rabbi Trail:  The Psalms of the “90”s are especially prominent in Erev Shabbat (Friday night) liturgy.  They are ingrained in the memory of those who have attended synagogue regularly and they are easily recalled for such an occasion as this.  End RT.

Make no mistake… Psalm 92:7 A brutish man does not know, nor does a fool understand. 8 Though the wicked spring up like grass, and all evildoers flourish, it is only to be ruined forever. 9 But You, Adonai, are exalted forever. 10 For behold, Your enemies, Adonai—behold Your enemies perish—all evildoers are scattered.  Shalom shalom.
