Psalm 37:23,24 Part 15

(Early) Shabbat Shalom,

Psalm 37:23 From Adonai a man’s steps are made firm, when He delights in his way. 24 Though he stumble, he will not fall headlong, for Adonai is holding his hand.

Rabbi Trail: I’ve been writing RRs on this Psalm for three weeks already.  Suddenly, I have realized that the Hebrew is written in an acrostic “Aleph through Tav.”  The reason it was hard to see is that (for the most part) it is every other verse that starts with the next letter of the Hebrew Alphabet.  There are five exceptions.  There are 22 Hebrew letters but only 40 verses in Psalm 37, so we are short 4 verses.  Three letters (Dalet, Kaf, Quf) have only one verse each, while one letter (Samech) has three verses, and the “Ayin” is missing altogether.  So, instead of 44 verses, there are only 40.  Is this driving you crazy?  I’m already there.!  End RT.

Is a word to the wise really sufficient?  In these verses is a promise from God that should be sufficient to a wise person.  The Lord is promising to make our steps (as we walk through life) “firmly established” when we take delight in Yeshua.  The promise is that even when we stumble we will not fall, because Adonai is holding our hand.  Let me ask, when you were making all your own decisions, before you knew the Lord, how was that working out for you?  Most of us, if we’re being intellectually honest, would have to admit that our decision making ability is somewhat flawed.  We need God, who knows the end from the beginning, to direct us by His wisdom as we walk through this life.

Psalm 121:2 My help comes from Adonai, Maker of heaven and earth. 3 He will not let your foot slip. Your Keeper will not slumber…. 7 Adonai will protect you from all evil. He will guard your life. 8 Adonai will watch over your coming and your going from this time forth and forevermore.

How could we not know this?  Isaiah 40:28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? Adonai is the eternal God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not grow tired or weary. His understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives strength to the weary, and to one without vigor He adds might. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall, 31 but they who wait for Adonai will renew their strength. They will soar up with wings as eagles. They will run, and not grow weary. They will walk, and not be faint.

Receive the blessing from God and “soar up with wings as eagles.”  Shalom shalom.
