RR Psalm 37:21,22 Part 14

Shalom,

Psalm 37:21 The wicked borrows and does not repay, but the righteous is a gracious giver. 22 For His blessed ones inherit the land. But those He curses will be cut off.

Ah, the blessing and the curse (B’racha U’K’lala), the blessing of the righteous and the curse of the wicked.  The scriptures make this abundantly clear in many places.  The promise is older than Abraham.  Genesis 12:3 “My desire is to bless those who bless you, but whoever curses you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”  I say “older” because it was spoken by God to the serpent and the satanic spirit within him.  Genesis 3:15 “I will put animosity between you and the woman—between your seed and her seed. He will crush your head, and you will crush his heel.”

This blessing is always connected to “A Righteous One,” and we know His name, Yeshua HaMashiach.  Contrarily, the curse applies to those who reject “The Righteous One.”  The blessing is offered through the redeemer to the children of Israel, and by extension to those from the nations who are grafted in.

In these verses of Psalm 37, David is restating Moses’ instruction from the Torah.

Deuteronomy 15:5 If only you would carefully listen to the voice of Adonai your God, being careful to do all these mitzvot that I am commanding you today! 6 For Adonai your God will bless you as He promised you. So you will lend to many nations, but not borrow; you will rule over many nations, but they will not rule over you.

Deuteronomy 28:9 Adonai will establish you as a holy people for Himself, just as He swore to you—if you keep the mitzvot of Adonai your God and walk in His ways.

But sadly, the children of Israel never could obey God’s righteous standard.  It took Yeshua, Who came to serve as our example of righteousness, to lead us into the blessings.

1John 2:3 Now we know that we have come to know Him by this—if we keep His commandments…. 6 whoever claims to abide in Him must walk just as He walked.

Now then, we are without excuse, because we have access to the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit by faith.  Hebrews 11:6 Now without faith it is impossible to please God. For the one who comes to God must believe that He exists and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.  Believe and by faith receive your blessing.  Shalom shalom.
