RR Psalm 65:7-9 Part 5
(Early) Shabbat Shalom,
Psalm 65:7 who establishes mountains by His power, being girded with might, 8 who stills the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the tumult of the peoples. 9 Those dwelling in the uttermost parts stand in awe of Your signs. You make morning and evening shout for joy.
It sounds like these verses 7 and 8 are questions, but in context, they are not. This Psalm of David is here describing how great God is. Well then, let’s ask the question, “How great is our God?” Psalm 145:3 Great is Adonai, and greatly to be praised—His greatness is unsearchable. In the Hebrew of verse 7, God sets the mountains upright (Ma’kun) in power (Ko’ach) and might (G’vu’rah). Then in verse 8, God continues to show His power by subduing the seas and waves along with many peoples.
The following verse (9a) further describes the response of those peoples to God’s greatness. Psalm 65:9a Those dwelling in the uttermost parts stand in awe of Your signs. Verse 9b provides a concluding statement on the greatness of God. Psalm 65:9b You make morning and evening shout for joy.
How awesome is God? We might think we know, but we don’t know anything. 1Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, “Things no eye has seen and no ear has heard, that have not entered the heart of mankind—these things God has prepared for those who love Him.” But wait! That’s not entirely true, is it. God has sent His Spirit to reveal the truth to those who love Him. 1Corinthians 2:10 But God revealed these things to us through the Ruach. For the Ruach searches all things—even the depths of God.
Yeshua taught His disciples that they know things others don’t. Matthew 13:11 And He replied to them, “To you has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.” We, the redeemed, who follow Yeshua, have this as our inheritance. Now, back to our original question, “How great is our God?”
Ephesians 3:20 Now to Him who is able to do far beyond all that we ask or imagine, by means of His power that works in us, 21 to Him be the glory in the community of believers and in Messiah Yeshua throughout all generations forever and ever! Amen. You were hoping for something greater? No way! Shalom shalom.
