RR Psalm 62:10 Part 6
Shalom,
Psalm 62:10 Sons of Adam are a vapor, sons of man are an illusion. In balanced scales they go up—altogether they are less than a breath.
Psalm 62 is a sister Psalm to Psalm 39. For instance, Psalm 39:7 Everyone goes about as a mere phantom. Surely they are making an uproar in vain, heaping up stuff—yet not knowing who will gather it. As the saying goes, “You can’t take it with you.” So then, which one are you, a phantom, a vapor, or an illusion? How about “None of the above.” Only when our identity is founded in Messiah Yeshua, can we stand and say with confidence, “I am a child of God.”
1John 3:1 See how glorious a love the Father has given us, that we should be called God’s children—and so we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him. 2 Loved ones, now we are God’s children; and it has not yet been revealed what we will be. But we do know that when it’s revealed, we shall be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.
The evening news is filled with people who have lost everything due to fire, flood, mudslide, storm, earthquake, tornado or any combination of natural disasters. The promise from Scripture is that eventually everything will burn.
2Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. On that day the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the elements will melt and disintegrate, and the earth and everything done on it shall be exposed.
Before you get discouraged and throw in the towel, Peter explains why he just said that… 2Peter 3:11 Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what kind of people should you be? Live your lives in holiness and godliness. God’s kingdom is made of love. 1John 4:8 The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
Anything that is not compatible with God’s love is from the enemy. Love God and love each other, these are the two great commandments. Let’s invest our lives in the substance of God’s kingdom. This leads us to the warning in our next verse, that we should not be seduced by the attractions of this world. We’ll get to that tomorrow. Shalom shalom.
