RR Psalm 40:4(3) Part 2

Shalom,

Psalm 40:4 He put a new song in my mouth—a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and trust in Adonai.

Wait a minute… a “new song?”  And why wouldn’t we sing a “new song?”Just yesterday (as we studied the previous three verses) we were amazed that God, our creator, stopped everything to “redeem and deliver” us from sin.  We really can’t help ourselves, we’ve got to sing His praises.  This “new song” may be new to us, but it isn’t really all that new.

Revelation 5:8 When He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp and golden bowls full of incense—which are the prayers of the kedoshim. 9 And they are singing a new song, saying, “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals. For You were slain, and by Your blood You redeemed for God those from every tribe and tongue and people and nation.

This includes more than just the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders…

Revelation 5:11 Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne and the living creatures and the elders—their number was myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands. 12 They were chanting with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!”

So this “new song” goes on to include every living creature in both heaven and earth…

Revelation 5:13 And I heard every creature in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and on the sea and everything in them, responding, “To the One seated on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and power forever and ever!” 14 And the four living creatures kept saying, “Amen!” And the elders fell down and worshiped.

What about you?  Are you saying, “Amen?”  What is our eternal response to what we see?  We fear (have a healthy respect for), and we trust (count upon) God, Who is called in the Hebrew of verse four by two names, “Eloheinu” meaning “our God,” and Yehovah(YHVH) which is God’s eternal name.

His name, Yehovah, is made of four letters, which are the first Hebrew letters of each word in the sentence, “He will be (Yud), He is (Hey), AND (Vav), He was (Hey).”  (In Hebrew, Yiyeh, Hoveh, V’, Hayah)  Interesting that God sees himself (He named Himself) beginning from His future, then looking back to the present, and finally looking further back to the past.  His first thought about Himself is Who He will be.  We usually think in terms of past, present and future, but God’s kingdom is not like our kingdom.  His kingdom see the end from the beginning.

Isaiah 46:9 “Remember the former things of old: For I am God—there is no other. I am God, and there is none like Me— 10 declaring the end from the beginning, from ancient time, what is yet to come, saying, “My purpose will stand, and I will accomplish all that I please.”

He is worthy!  He has put a new song in the mouth of each one of us who loves Him.  Sing it out!  Shalom shalom.
