Psalm 29:4 – Part 4

Psalm 29:4 The voice of Adonai is powerful. The voice of Adonai is full of majesty.

The words “voice of Adonai(YHVH)” are mentioned seven times in this Psalm.  Each one is an amplification of the power of God.  We never want to miss the metanarrative of the Bible, creation, fall, redemption, and restoration.  As we deal with Scripture one verse at a time, it might be tempting to study the minutia and miss the overall purpose of God.

God’s overall purpose is to express Himself through love.  God created mankind so that He could love us, and the world so that He would have a place and the provision through which to love us.  Please take a moment to read 1John 4 (yes, the whole chapter).  I just did.  It’s too long to quote here but here are some snippets.

1John 4:7a Loved ones, let us love one another, for love is from God…. 8b for God is love. 10 This is love—not that we have loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atonement for our sins…. 16 So we have come to know and trust in the love that God has for us. God is love. Now whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 17a In this way, love is made perfect among us….

When God speaks, He is always love motivated.  Therefore; all of the attributes of His voice are also love motivated.  Today, our subject verse declares God’s voice is both powerful and majestic.  Psalm 93:1 Adonai reigns—He is robed in majesty! Adonai has robed and armed Himself with strength. Yes, the world is firmly established—unshakable.  The power of His voice is love motivated.  So too, the majesty of His voice is love motivated.

How will we respond?  We take heed to His voice, in His image, by loving God and loving each other.  Matthew 22:37 And He said to him, “‘You shall love Adonai your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 The entire Torah and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

God is always speaking.  It’s on us to be listening and responding to His call.  Shalom shalom.
