RR Psalm 37:39,40 Part 24

Shalom,

Psalm 37:39 Yet the salvation of the righteous is from Adonai. He is their stronghold in time of trouble. 40 Adonai helps them and delivers them. He rescues them from the wicked and saves them—because they take refuge in Him.

Such words form the last two verses of Psalm 37….  Salvation (T’shu’at), Stronghold (Ma’u’zam), Helps (VaYaz’rim), Delivers (Va’Y’pal’tem), Rescues (Y’pal’tem), Saves (V’Yoshi’em), and Refuge (Chasu) make up the poetry of this final salvo of thoughts that proclaim the salvation of the righteous.  Adonai (YHVH) is mentioned twice, first as the source of salvation (the reason He sent His Son) for the righteous and as the Helper, Deliverer, Rescuer and even Savior of those who take refuge in Him (also a great description of Yeshua’s ministry.

Did you notice above the Hebrew translated as “Delivers and Rescues?”  It’s the same Hebrew word “Y’pal’tem,” twice.  This is how we express superlatives in Hebrew.  There are other ways to make comparatives in both biblical and modern Hebrew, but the repetition of a word is also done in both.  This is saying our God is the greatest deliverer of all.

Which is the essence of Yeshua’s promise…. Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it shall be given to you. Seek, and you shall find. Knock, and it shall be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it shall be opened.

Jeremiah prophesied this as well…. Jeremiah 29:12 “Then you will call on Me, and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek Me and find Me, when you will search for Me with all your heart. 14a Then I will be found by you,” says Adonai.

God holds Himself to the same standards of righteousness as He expects from us.  When He says “Shema Yisrael” (Hear O Yisrael), He also says to Himself, “I hear my people.”  1John 5:14 Now this is the confidence we have before Him—that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have the requests we have asked from Him.

This is very affirming and uplifting as we close our study of Psalm 37.  Tomorrow, we’ll start Psalm 38.  Shalom shalom.
