RR Psalm 35:15,16,17 Part 10

Psalm 35:15,16,17 – Part 10

Psalm 35:15 But at my stumbling they gathered in glee. Wretches gathered against me whom I did not know, tearing at me without ceasing. 16 They mocked profanely, as if at a feast, they gnashed at me with their teeth. 17 My Lord, how long will You look on? Rescue my soul from their ravages—my solitary existence from the lions.

David has another Son, and His name is Yeshua.  Romans 1:3 Concerning His Son, He came into being from the seed of David according to the flesh.  And, Yeshua is also God’s Son, and David’s Lord.  Romans 1:4 He was appointed Ben-Elohim in power according to the Ruach of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. He is Messiah Yeshua our Lord.  Yeshua made every effort to clear this up by challenging the Pharisees.

Mat 22:42 (Yeshua) saying (to the Pharisees), “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose Son is He?” “David’s,” they say to Him. 43 “Then how is it,” He says to them, “that David by the Ruach calls him ‘Lord’? 44 For he says, ‘Adonai said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, until I put Your enemies under Your feet.”’ 45 If David then calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his son?”

That’s right, Yeshua is God in the flesh, fully God and fully man.  Philippians 2:7 But He emptied Himself—taking on the form of a slave, becoming the likeness of men and being found in appearance as a man.  I’m making this connection because both David and his descendant, Yeshua, (who is both his Son and his Lord) were hated.  Their common condition is explained in detail in our subject verses.

Both David and Yeshua were torn, mocked, and gnashed upon.  The question in verse 17 is to ask how long will God watch before He moves to “rescue my soul.”  The Hebrew word translated as “rescue” is “HaShivah,” which means “return to me.”  The Psalmist is asking “How long will You look on before You return to me?  Yeshua used other words to convey a similar message from the cross, quoting Psalm 22:2a My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?
When Abraham was about to sacrifice his only begotten son, there was a substitute ram in the thicket.  When the time had come for God to sacrifice His only begotten Son, there was no substitute.  Yeshua is the once-for-all-time sacrifice.  Hebrews 10:10 By His will we have been made holy through the offering of the body of Messiah Yeshua once for all.

The enemies of God may mock, but God will not be mocked.  He came as a lamb, but He will return as a Lion, the Lion of the tribe of Judah.  Revelation 5:4 I began to weep loudly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it. 5 Then one of the elders tells me, “Stop weeping! Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed—He is worthy to open the scroll and its seven seals.”

Until then, we wait… Micah 7:7 But I—I will watch for Adonai. I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me. 8 Do not rejoice over me, O my enemy. Though I have fallen—I will arise. Though I sit in darkness, Adonai is my light.  Shalom shalom.
