RR Psalm 61:6 Part 6

Shalom,

Psalm 61:6 For You have heard my vows, O God. You have given the inheritance of those who fear Your Name.

Vows in Hebrew are “Nidre,” as in Kol Nidre, the name of the most holy day meaning “all vows.”  What are “vows” anyway?  Aren’t we told not to make them?  Matthew 5:33 “Again, you have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall carry out your oaths to Adonai.’ 34 But I tell you, do not swear at all—not by heaven, for it is the throne of God.”  Yeshua’s point here is not to make professions lightly.  “Oaths to Adonai” are very serious to both God and man.  Matthew 5:37 But let your word ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No’—anything more than this is from the evil one.”

Vows are exchanged as part of a covenant commitment.  God makes his covenant with us, and we reply with a “yes” in our hearts and a profession of faith.

First God’s covenant to us….  Hosea 2:21 Then I will betroth you to Me forever—yes, I will betroth you to Me with righteousness, justice, covenant loyalty and compassion. 22 I will betroth you to Me with faithfulness, and you will know Adonai.

Then our own response….  Deuteronomy 6:5 Love Adonai your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. Romans 10:9 For if you confess with your mouth that Yeshua is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart it is believed for righteousness, and with the mouth it is confessed for salvation.

In the second part of our subject verse, An inheritance (Morashah) is given.  An inheritance is ownership granted to a rightful heir.  We are God’s family and our inheritance cannot be taken away.  1Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah! In His great mercy He caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Messiah Yeshua from the dead. 4 An incorruptible, undefiled, and unfading inheritance has been reserved in heaven for you.

That puts a smile on my face.  I hope it put one on yours too.  Shalom shalom.
