RR Psalm 59:15-18 Part 7
Shalom.
Psalm 59:15 They return at evening, snarling like a dog, prowling about the city. 16 They wander around for food. If they are not full, they stay up all night. 17 But I—I sing of Your strength! Yes, in the morning I sing aloud of Your lovingkindness. For You have been my fortress, a refuge in the day of my trouble. 18 O my strength, to You I sing praises. For God is my strong tower—my God of lovingkindness.
Today we conclude our meditations on Psalm 59. First, David was being hunted by “bloodthirsty men” (in verse 3), who were acting like a pack of ravenous dogs (in verse 7). And here also, at the end of the Psalm, the same hunters (prowling about the city) are still “snarling like a dog” (in verse 15). Is it an honor to be hunted? Not really, the honor is in being delivered by the hand of God from those seeking to ruin our lives.
Isaiah 41:13 “For I am Adonai your God who upholds your right hand, who says to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’”
That’s a great promise from God. May the faithful receive it and stand firm upon it. We read as David penned in the Psalm (paraphrasing), “They are coming after me in the evening,… but I’m singing God’s praises in the morning.” Here’s another observation… Why are those “dogs” always “wandering around for food” (as in verse 16)? It is because they are never satisfied. Only Yeshua satisfies, and they don’t have Yeshua.
John 6:35 Yeshua said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to Me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty.
We are all born with an emptiness that longs to be satisfied. The temptations of this world only offer cheap substitutes. Our longings will only and ever be fulfilled by the One-True-And-Living God. That’s why He alone is able….
Matthew 11:28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and ‘you will find rest for your souls.’ 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Is there some better plan that I don’t know about? 1Peter 5:7 Cast all your worries on Him, for He cares for you. Shalom shalom.
