RR Psalm 35:1 Part 1

Shalom,

Psalm 35:1 A psalm of David. Adonai, oppose those who oppose me. Fight those who fight me.

The Psalm simply begins in Hebrew “L’David,” which means simply “for or to David.”  Two Hebrew words are used twice each in what may be taken to be a courtroom setting.  “Rebah” and “L’cham,” meaning “oppose” and “fight.”  So then, in Hebrew, the Psalmist is calling upon Adonai(YHVH) to oppose the opposers and fight the fighters.

This means the Psalmist is calling upon the Lord(YHVH) to take up the his defense, a common theme in the Psalms.

Psalm 94:16 Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will stand up for me against evildoers?

Psalm 118:13 You pushed me hard to make me fall, but Adonai helped me. 14 Adonai is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation.

Psalm 7:11 My shield is God—Savior of the upright in heart. 12a God is a righteous judge, a God who is indignant every day. 13a If He does not relent, He will sharpen His sword.
When God is your defense, you can be filled with boldness to stand firm in faith.

Psalm 62:7 He alone is my rock and my salvation, my strong tower—I will not be moved.

One more thing today… 2Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.  Listen (or read) Yeshua’s response to Thomas (the doubter).  John 20:29 Yeshua said to Him, “Because you have seen Me, you have believed? Blessed are the ones who have not seen and yet have believed!”

May we all rest in confident peace that Yeshua will be our defense in time of trouble.

Psalm 27:5 For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His sukkah, conceal me in the shelter of His tent, and set me high upon a rock. 6 Then will my head be high above my enemies around me. In His Tabernacle I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy. I will sing, yes, sing praises to Adonai.

2Thessalonians 3:3 But the Lord is trustworthy—and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.

Shalom shalom.
