RR Psalm 47:7(6) Part 6

Shavuah Tov,

Psalm 47:7(6)  Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises!

The command to “(everyone) sing praises” in Hebrew is “Zamru.”  That word, in exactly that form, is mentioned four times in our subject verse.  In the noble words of my late mother-in-law, Millie (Jan’s mom,Mildred Manno who lived to be 102 in Cleveland, OH), “What are ya gonna do?”  Let’s answer that question with a question.

What else can we do?  Now, let’s answer the question.  We must praise the Lord.  We have been blessed with such great blessings, we must sing His praises with both our voices and our instruments, which is the full meaning of “Zamru.”  Before there was a king in Israel, there was a prophetess named Deborah.  Here is what she had to say.  Judges 5:3  Listen, O kings! Give ear, O rulers! I, to Adonai I will sing, I will sing praise to Adonai, the God of Israel.

As we read yesterday, the last verse of Psalms is right on subject.  Psalm 150:6 Let every thing that has breath praise Adonai. Halleluyah!  That really smart Messianic Rabbi who wrote the Book of Hebrews knew something about this also.  Hebrews 13:15 Through Yeshua then, let us continually offer up to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips giving thanks to His name.

Now, let’s close with this from Psalm 95.  Psalm 95:1 O come, let us sing for joy to Adonai. Let us shout for joy to the rock of our salvation. 2 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving. Let us shout joyfully to Him with songs. 3 For Adonai is a great God and a great King above all gods.  Shalom shalom.
