RR Psalm 47:6(5) Part 5

(Early) Shabbat Shalom,

Psalm 47:6(5) God is gone up amidst shouting, Adonai amidst the sound of the shofar.

Rabbi Trail: Before we go on, I just fixed (on my master copy) the error I made from Parts 1 through 4 (all this week).  I inadvertently left out verse 4 and labeled verse 5 as if it were verse 4.  I don’t know how this happened.  Consequently, I was going to blame this one on the Hebrew numbering system, but since the Hebrew numbering system came first, I have to put the blame on the Christian numbering system.  The important thing (for me) is not to blame myself for my error.  Now I see… It’s Keil and Delitzsch who are at fault.  They got the numbering wrong in their commentary.  Thank you for your understanding and forbearance.  Now, let’s deal with our subject verse today.  End RT.

Our verse starts with “God is gone up….”  Although it is not mentioned here, God must first have come down.  (You do agree with me that God must start in heaven, don’t you?)  There are plenty of places in Scripture where God comes down.   Notably, God informs Moses… Exodus 3:8a So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, to bring them up out of that land into a good and large land, a land flowing with milk and honey.

Before God “came down” in Egypt, He suddenly appeared to Abraham.  Genesis 17:1 When Abram was 99 years old, Adonai appeared to Abram, and He said to him, “I am El Shaddai. Continually walk before Me and you will be blameless.”  Up or down, God is omnipresent.  Jacob 4:8 Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.

Also, connected to both His coming down and going up is the sound of the Shofar.  The Shofar trumpets God’s coronation.  Psalm 98:5 Sing praises to Adonai with the harp, with the harp and a voice of melody. 6  With trumpets and sound of the shofar blast a sound before the King, Adonai.  Don’t miss this… the “King, Adonai” is Yeshua, Whom we must praise.

Psalm 150:1 Halleluyah! Praise God in His Sanctuary! Praise Him in His mighty expanse. 2 Praise Him for His acts of power. Praise Him for His enormous greatness. 3 Praise Him with the blast of the shofar. Praise Him with harp and lyre. 4 Praise Him with tambourine and dance. Praise Him with string instruments and flute. 5 Praise Him with clash of cymbals. Praise Him with resounding cymbals. 6 Let every thing that has breath praise Adonai. Halleluyah!

Shalom shalom.

PS - Jan won’t let me go on without mentioning something about that skipped verse.  Psalm 47:4 He subdues peoples under us, and nations under our feet.  The challenge is just to “mention something.”  I’m tempted to write a book.  God will give His people the victory over all the peoples and nations of the earth.  It starts in the Garden… Genesis 3:15 “I will put animosity between you and the woman—between your seed and her seed. He will crush your head, and you will crush his heel.”  And it ends in another Garden.  This one also has a river running through it.  Revelation 22:1 Then the angel showed me a river of the water of life—bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb…. 3 No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in the city, and His servants shall serve Him.  Oh happy day!  Shalom shalom (again).
