Psalm 61:9(8) – Part 9
Psalm 61:9 So I will sing praise to Your Name forever, to fulfill my vows day after day.
My own amplified version… “Yes, I will perpetually sing songs of praise to Your Name, so that I might complete my vows perfectly every day.”
Speaking of vows… Yom Kippur begins (this year) on Sunday night, September 20th with the “Kol Nidre” prayer. Kol Nidre means “all vows.” Yes, immediately we lead off the “Day of Atonement” with a penitentiary prayer. Seeking forgiveness, we renounce all vows made under duress. This prayer was instituted during the inquisition, when such vows were demanded over the threat of death. God treats all our vows seriously, so we ask Him to pardon us from those we didn’t keep.
Deuteronomy 23:22 “When you make a vow to Adonai your God, you are not to delay to make good on it—for Adonai your God will certainly require it of you, and you would have sin on you. 23 But if you refrain from making a vow, you would not have sin on you. 24a Whatever comes out of your lips you are to take care to do.
On the other side of vows, is praise and thanksgiving. No matter the stress or tension, (there are always mitigating circumstances) we must maintain an attitude of thanksgiving before God. Songs of praise and thanksgiving are called “Zimrot” in Hebrew. We must always have songs in our hearts, songs of “yes” to God.
Psalm 34:2 I will bless Adonai at all times. His praise is continually in my mouth…. 9 Taste and see how good Adonai is. Blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.
Miriam, the Mother of Yeshua, was over the top with excitement as she expressed her response to God before Yeshua was born as she spoke to her cousin, Elizabeth. Luke 1:46 Then Miriam said, “My soul magnifies Adonai, 47 and my spirit greatly rejoices in God, my Savior.
May those same words be on our own lips, as we give thanks for all God has done for us. B’shem Yeshua, Amen.
