RR Psalm 48:4(3) Part 2

Shalom,

Psalm 48:4(3) God, in her palaces, is known as a stronghold.

The Hebrew word for “stronghold” is “Misgav.”  Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance has this to say about “Misgav.”  “From sagab; properly, a cliff (or other lofty or inaccessible place); abstractly, altitude; figuratively, a refuge -- defence(sic), high fort (tower), refuge,….”  We, the redeemed, must see that God is our “strong tower.”  Psalm 9, verse 10(9) uses it twice.    Psalm 9:10(9) Adonai is a stronghold for the oppressed, a high tower in times of trouble.

Finally, “Misgav” is mentioned 17 times in Scripture.  13 of those are in the Psalms.  It is the last word of Psalm 18, verse 3(2).  Psalm 18:3(2) Adonai is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer. My God is my rock, in Him I take refuge, my shield, my horn of salvation, my stronghold.

Take a moment to meditate on how God, our heavenly Father, provides a place of safe refuge for those who trust in Him.  Isaiah saw it in the spirit, and we must see it too.  Isaiah 33:5 Adonai is exalted, for He dwells on high! He has filled Zion with justice and righteousness. 6 It will be your time of faithfulness, a wealth of salvation, wisdom and knowledge—the fear of Adonai is His treasure.  Shalom shalom.

Rabbi Trail: Don’t miss this… the Hebrew is very clear in attributing the female personal pronoun.  “God, in HER palaces, is known as a stronghold.”  It might surprise you to know that there are quite a few places in Scripture where God is described with feminine pronouns.  Many of these scriptures are included in the liturgical prayers used everyday.

So then, is God a man or a woman?  You might imagine that God doesn’t have to choose, and you would be right.  To say He is one or the other would be to limit Who He is, yet God Himself is without limit.  Let’s continue with this by considering one of God’s names, “Avinu Shev Ba’Shamayim,” which means “Our Father Who art in heaven.”

Now you’re confused… How can our “father” be feminine?  He isn’t, but he does have a feminine side. End RT.
