RR Psalm 48:8,9 Part 4
Rabbi’s Reflections - Wednesday, March 4, 2026
Shalom,
Psalm 48:Psa 48:8(7) With an east wind You broke the ships of Tarshish. 9(8) As we have heard, so have we seen, in the city of Adonai-Tzva’ot, in the city of our God. God will establish her forever. Selah
How appropriate… today we are watching this prophecy transformed into reality. The “ships of Tarshish” are a prophetic reference to the powers of this world. Ships, in biblical times, and even today, are a symbol of wealth and power. Today, God is breaking these powers while preserving “the city of our God.” And what city is that? As King Solomon prophesied long ago….
2Chronicles 6:4 He (Solomon) said: “Blessed be Adonai, the God of Israel, who with His hands has fulfilled what He spoke with His mouth to my father David, saying:… 6 ‘But I have chosen Jerusalem that My Name would abide there and I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.’”
The Hebrew name for Jerusalem is Yerushalayim. When a Hebrew word ends in “…ayim,” it means there are two of them. But where is the second Jerusalem? (btw: I know the Hebrew spelling of Yerushalayim doesn’t match. I’m not sure why that is.) Revelation 21:1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 I also saw the holy city—the New Jerusalem—coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. That’s right, The city of Jerusalem will be preserved by God until He replaces it with New Jerusalem. (Galatians 4:26 But the Jerusalem above is free—she is our mother.).
Furthermore; New Jerusalem is not a geographical title, but a city of citizens, a people, who are the called out people of God. Revelation 19:7 Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready…. What a great time to be alive. Shalom shalom.
