RR Psalm 48:8,9 Part 5

Rabbi’s Reflections - Thursday, March 5, 2026
Shalom,

Psalm 48:8(7) With an east wind You broke the ships of Tarshish. 9(8) As we have heard, so have we seen, in the city of Adonai-Tzva’ot, in the city of our God. God will establish her forever. Selah

You might notice, these are the same verses today as yesterday.  That’s not completely unusual.  Sometimes it takes more than one RR to adequately meditate on what is being communicated.  The reason we even have The Word is so that God can communicate His heart in a way that changes our hearts.

Isaiah 55:11 “…so My word will be that goes out from My mouth. It will not return to Me in vain, but will accomplish what I intend, and will succeed in that for which I sent it.” (The TLV ends with a preposition, but I just couldn’t do it.)

And our hearts are changed over time (not instantly).  Isaiah 28:10 “For it must be ‘precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little.’”  Beside that, these 3 subject verses end with “Selah!”  We know that means pause here because something profound has just been communicated.  And so profound is, to paraphrase, “the city of the Lord, our God, will be established forever.”

The word “established” in Hebrew is “Kun.”  The amplification of that Hebrew word is (according to Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance) “…(causatively) to set up, in a great variety of applications, whether literal (establish, fix, prepare, apply), or figurative (appoint, render sure, proper or prosperous).  Want the good news?  When you become a follower of Yeshua, you are granted citizenship to that heavenly city we spoke about yesterday.

Want more good news?  It is a Jewish city, ruled by the “King of the Jews,” and you don’t have to be Jewish to be a full citizen with all the rights and privileges thereto.

Ephesians 3:3 that the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I wrote before briefly. 4 When you read this, you can understand my insight into the mystery of Messiah— 5 which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations, as it has now been revealed by the Ruach to His holy emissaries and prophets. 6 This mystery is that the Gentiles are joint heirs and fellow members of the same body and co-sharers of the promise in Messiah Yeshua through the Good News.

Finally, notice our Hebrew word, “Kun” also means “fix” or “prepare.”  Something must be broken if it needs fixing.  What was broken in the Garden of Eden is our relationship with God, through the original sin of Adam and Eve.  God had to send His Son to fix that.  The rest of the story, we covered yesterday.  It is the marriage (Chatunah in Hebrew) of the Beloved Son to His prepared Bride.  Again, oh happy day for the citizens of New Jerusalem!  Shalom shalom.
