RR Psalm 63:6,7 Part 4
Shalom,
Psalm 63:6 My soul is satisfied as with fat and oil, so my mouth praises You with joyful lips. 7 When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You through the night watches.
David is using the language of a poet to express His desire for God, His presence, and His blessings. Let’s appreciate what we are reading here. David is hiding in the desert from an army that has orders from his 3rd oldest son, Absalom, to kill him. He’s tired, cold, hungry and thirsty. Yet, here he is “with joyful lips” offering praises to God, as he declares “my soul is satisfied!” This is an amazing declaration, considering the circumstances. David has developed a lifelong culture of singing praises to God without regard to his current circumstances. Do you think there is a lesson for us right here?
2Samuel 22:7 “In my distress I called upon Adonai, yes, I called to my God. From His Temple He heard my voice, my cry came into His ears.”
But, David didn’t stop there, he encourages us to follow his example.
1Chronicles 16:8 Give thanks to Adonai, call upon His Name. Make His deeds known among the peoples. 9 Sing to Him! Sing praises to Him! Tell of all His wonderful acts. 10 Glory in His holy Name! Let the heart of those who seek Adonai rejoice. 11 Seek Adonai and His strength. Seek His face always.
If we wait for good times to bless God, we’re not living in faith. Psalm 34:2 I will bless Adonai at all times. His praise is continually in my mouth. 3 My soul boasts in Adonai. The humble ones hear of it and rejoice. 4 Magnify Adonai with me and let us exalt His Name together.
Let’s join David and Paul as we live by faith and not by sight. 2Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. Shalom shalom.
