RR Psalm 59:11,12 Part 5

Shalom,

Psalm 59:11 My God in His lovingkindness will go before me. God will let me look down on my foes. 12 Do not slay them, lest my people forget. With Your power shake them and bring them down, O Lord our shield.

The Hebrew word is “Y’qad’may’ni,” translated here as “He will go before me,” but in other translations as “He will meet me.”  It is derived from the Shoresh “Qadam” (Quf-Dalet-Mem) which can also mean “to confront” or “to anticipate.”  Clearly, from the context, David is prophesying a meeting with God as he deals with his enemies.

Isaiah 54:17 No weapon formed against you will prosper and you will condemn every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of Adonai’s servants—their vindication is from Me.” It is a declaration of Adonai.

In what way is God going to anticipate or confront David?  A better question though is, how is God going to meet you and me in our own times of trouble?  The next verse itself tells us the answer, “In His lovingkindness.”  The Hebrew word is “Chas’do,” (from Chesed) also meaning “grace.”  Yeshua said as much to His enemies.

Luke 23:34a But Yeshua was saying, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

This brings us to yet another question, “How did God anticipate our need for grace to survive the difficult situations of life?”  Another answer you already know, “By sending His only begotten Son, Yeshua, as our eternal atonement.”  Break it down, “atonement” brings us to “at-one-ment” with God.  When we are one with Him, our enemies are His enemies too, and trust me, God knows how to take care of His enemies.

So, our prayer then should be, “May our enemies be shaken, but not killed.”  My personal testimony is that believers in Yeshua loved me into the kingdom.  My guess is that, if you know the Lord, the same is true for your testimony.  How dare we not offer that same kindness to those who are sick and dying in their unbelief.  Shalom shalom.
