Psalm 68:19,20(18,19) – Part 12

Psalm 68:19 You went up on high. You led captivity captive. You received gifts from humanity, even from the rebellious—so that God might dwell there. 20 Blessed be my Lord! Day by day He bears our burdens—the God of our salvation! Selah

Here, the psalmist makes a change.  Having just expressed a vision of the future victory, he now leads out in prayer over the current oppression.  Far from despair over such issues (oppression from Israel’s enemies), there is a good report.  “You led captivity captive” and “Blessed be my Lord!… (For) He bears our burdens.”

Paul actually quotes this verse… Ephesians 4:7 But to each one of us grace was given in keeping with the measure of Messiah’s gift. 8 Therefore it says, “When He went up on high, He led captive a troop of captives and gave gifts to his people.”

Let’s pause right here.  What is keeping you captive?  Don’t answer to me, answer to yourself, while I answer to myself.  It could be sin or the threat of death, or anything that holds humanity in bondage.  We were all held “captive,” until Yeshua came to set the captives free.

John 8:32 “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free!… 34b  Amen, amen I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin…. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed!”

Our calling is to be ambassadors for Messiah, to be His representatives in every situation of life.  We are always to reflect His character, His values, and His kingdom.

Isaiah 58:6  “Is not this the fast I choose: to release the bonds of wickedness, to untie the cords of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to tear off every yoke?”

Break every chain, break every chain, break every chain.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QANH8MWuyaE  Enjoy!  Shalom shalom.
