RR Psalm 59:5,6 Part 3
Shalom,
Psalm 59:5 For no guilt of mine, they run and set things up. Awake! Help me! Look! 6 For You are Adonai Elohei-Tzva’ot, the God of Israel! Rouse Yourself to punish all the nations. Show no mercy to any iniquitous traitors. Selah
David is a hunted man. He is being hunted by men who had previously followed him in battle against a common enemy. Now, those same men have turned against him, all because an obsessed king said so. Things for Yeshua were much the same. He also was hunted by His own people.
Our freedom in America has caused us to forget the tyranny of kings. We have the sovereign God, but in many parts of the world, they have, or had, a sovereign king. There can only be one sovereign in any one place at any one time. By definition, a “sovereign” must be obeyed immediately and without question. Any unaddressed rebellion at all means the “sovereign” is no longer “sovereign.”
God alone is sovereign in heaven. Psalm 103:19 Adonai has set up His throne in the heavens, and His kingdom rules over all. The battle raging between good and evil in the earth today is over who will reign on earth. So we pray… Matthew 6:10 Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. God’s will in heaven is done immediately and without question.
Rabbi Trail: God warned Israel through the prophet, Samuel, against having a king since He was already their King. 1Samuel 8:11 “This will be the practice of the king that will reign over you,” he said. “He will draft your sons, etc… 17b Then you yourselves will become his slaves. 18 When the day comes and you cry out because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves, Adonai will not answer you on that day.”
But the people insisted, and God gave them their desires. 1Samuel 10:19 “But today you have spurned your God, who is your deliverer from all your calamities and your distresses. For you said to Him: ‘No! Rather set a king over us.’ Now therefore present yourselves before Adonai by your tribes and by your thousands.”…24b Then all the people shouted and said, “Long live the king!” End RT.
All David can do is to call upon the greater King, Who is the Lord. We are all hunted. Satan wants our souls. And the only hope of salvation for any of us is to follow David’s example, and call upon the Lord.
Psalm 91:14 “Because he has devoted his love to Me, I will deliver him. I will set him securely on high, because he knows My Name. 15 When he calls on Me, I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble, rescue him, and honor him.
Shalom shalom.
