RR Psalm 59:3,4 Part 2

Psalm 59:3 Deliver me from workers of iniquity. Rescue me from bloodthirsty men. 4 For behold, they lie in wait for me. Defiant men stir up strife against me—not for my transgression or sin, Adonai.

Verses two and three both start with the same word.  In both verses, David (Notwithstanding that some scholars believe this Psalm was written much later by Nehemiah because Nehemiah also had enemies who plotted to kill him.) is calling upon God for deliverance.  In verse two, he seeks deliverance from his enemies, while in verse three, he is seeking deliverance from “workers of iniquity.”  

As with all Scripture, we must ask the question, “What is God saying to me through these words?  How does this speak to my life?”  First, let’s do a quick study…..  “What is deliverance?”  Or, perhaps a better way to phrase the question is, “What needs deliverance?”  This is at the very heart of Yeshua’s ministry.  

Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of Adonai Elohim is on me, because Adonai has anointed me to proclaim Good News to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.  

Yeshua read this in his hometown (Nazareth) synagogue, affirming this is his ministry… Luke 4:21 Then He began to tell them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your ears.”  Yeshua spoke, and the people heard in their ears, but they were not ready to receive it in their hearts.  Deliverance happens in the heart.

Back to our original question, Who needs deliverance?  Let me answer unequivocally, “Everybody!”  And to the second question, “What needs deliverance?”  Our verse from Psalm 59 answers the question, if you look at the Hebrew, the English misses it.  Psalm 59:4a For behold, they lie in wait for me.  The Hebrew says, “They lie is wait for my soul.”  The Hebrew word for soul is “Nefesh,” meaning, “the life giving force that is within me.”  Make no mistake, that’s what the enemy wants.  Add to that, we are all captives of sin.  We all need deliverance from that captivity.  

Stop and ask!  Then pray for deliverance and Malachi 3:20(4:2) “But for you who revere My Name, the sun of righteousness will rise, with healing in its wings.”  That “sun of righteousness” is the bright and morning star!

Revelation 22:16 “I, Yeshua, have sent My angel to testify these things to you for My communities. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.”
   
Oh this is good!  What’s better?  When you receive it, it becomes your goodness, direct from the throne of God.  Shalom shalom.
